Don't Make These COMMUNICATION Mistakes!

Andy Neary explains how your camera angle and posture in virtual meetings send subconscious signals to your team. Looking up at your laptop, standing too close, or being off-camera reads as unprofessional. Keep the camera at eye level, look into the lens, and use consistent branding like a branded banner.

If you are a leader right now, whether you lead a sales team, a department within your organization, or an entire organization, I have a really important question to ask you. Are you aware of the subconscious messages you're sending when you lead meetings in this two dimensional world? My guess is the answer is no. You've been used to leading meetings and conference rooms live in front of people, and the game has changed now. Now you're on Zoom, Goto whatever, and you are unaware of the subconscious messages you're sending. I'm hearing it from employees right now. What do I mean by subconscious messages?
Well, let's start here.
When you stand at your laptop and you lead a meeting like this, you're letting your entire team know you are more important than them.
How about the other way?
You're looking up at your desktop or your laptop. Now you're saying, I'm weak and it's actually negatively impacting your leadership whether you know it or not. Then we've got this, the ghostly.
Look, I can't even see you, so how can I lead or follow you or believe you?
And then this one, I'm not even going to try to tell you what kind of subconscious message you're sending with this. Please turn on your camera.
Okay. If you're leading meetings in this two.
Dimensional world, you got to keep it level. Stay in front of the camera, eye level, look right into the camera.
Talk to your team just like you.
Would when you're in the conference room.
And most importantly, keep it professional.
Now, I like wearing T shirts once.
In a while, but make everything look and resonate and follow the brand you.
Want to create as a leader.
Heck, I just bought this.
This is the best investment I have.
Made in months for less than $190.
It's got my branding, it's got my.
Logos, and now it can sit behind.
Me when I'm doing podcasts, when I'm doing Zoom meetings.
Listen, if you lead a sales team right now, I would invest $200 in.
Every one of your reps and to give them one of these banners with your organization's logo on it.
It looks professional and it looks a heck of a lot better than them.
Trying to sell with their apartment in their background. So my advice to you right now.
If you are a leader and you're.
Trying to lead teams in a two dimensional world, be very cautious of your appearance on camera, how you're leading.
Keep it level. Don't go above, don't go below, and don't go ghostly.
It's going to take you, your brand and your team's belief in you so much farther.
