A short motivational monologue by Andy Neary arguing that career success depends primarily on mindset (80%) rather than technical skill (20%). He uses his own failure in professional baseball as an example, recommends joining mastermind groups (including those outside one’s industry), and urges listeners to prioritize mindset work to achieve skills, success, and career happiness.

I want to share with you the most important 8020 rule you will ever hear in your career. You've heard the 8020 rule, right? Pareto's principle. 80% of your results come from 20% of your actions. Well, which 80 20am I talking about? Spend 80% of your career working on your mindset and the other 20 on your skill. What? What am I talking about? Yeah. 80% of your time should be worked on, your mindset, your beliefs, and the other 20 is advancing your skills. Ask any pro athlete what it takes to succeed at the highest level in sports, they'll tell you it's 80% mindset, 20% skill. It's why I failed in professional baseball. I had the skill. It was my mindset that failed me, my limiting beliefs that came back to haunt me. And I'm telling this to you right now because I know, I see you. If you're not where you want to be in your career, you're struggling a little bit, you're just not having the success. You tend to do what? Acquire more skills. You go to the next conference, you attend the next webinar, you hang around people within your industry because you think it's going to be more skill. That next product, that next solution, the silver bullets that is going to take your career to the next level.
It's mindset. One of the best things I ever did for my career is when I started joining masterminds with people that had nothing to do with my industry. I got insight from others from the outside that helped me grow my mindset that made me the success I was in my industry. I had the skill. It was my mindset that was failing me. And I'm telling you, the same is happening to you. It's not the next product, it's not the next piece of knowledge that's going to help you win. Start working on your mindset. If you focus here, the skills will follow, the successful follow, and most importantly, your happiness in your career will follow as well.
