Here's Why Your FALLING SHORT of Success

Andy Neary uses the monkey trap parable to explain why people get stuck: they cling to past habits and rewards like a monkey won't release nuts from a gourd. Letting go of what worked before is the fastest way to change your results.

Do you feel stuck in your life? Feel stuck in your business? If so, maybe you can learn a message from the parable of the monkey trap. In Africa and Central Asia, hunters and farmers capture monkeys with relative ease. Here's how they do it. They take a gourd and they cut a really small hole in it, just big enough for the monkey's hand. And then they take some nuts and throw them down the hole and set the gourd out as a trap and just wait for the monkey to come by. And soon enough, monkey comes strolling along, takes a whiff of the nuts and gets intrigued by what's inside the gourd. So it sticks its hand inside, grabs a hold of the nuts. But when it comes to try to pull its hand out, it can't because the monkey's hand is now in the shape of a fist holding the nuts. And instead of just letting go, it refuses. And it keeps trying to pull its fist out of the gourd, but it can't. And eventually it becomes easy prey for the farmer and hunter. So where in your life do you feel stuck? Where in your business do you feel stuck and are refusing to let go of past habits, past beliefs? Because this is a fast paced society and refusing to let go only makes you easy prey for competition. So if you do feel stuck and you want different results, you want different, better results, I just have one simple piece of advice for you. Let go of the nuts. Because the quickest way to shift your results is to shift your mindset. And you are just one mindset. Shift away from greatness. Until next week, bear down, focus on the target and strike out the status quo.
