How We Should Be Training New Advisors

Andy Neary says the insurance industry is losing young advisors because agencies hire them with almost no training, then treat them as replaceable staff. Letting advisors build their own brands keeps them engaged and generating business instead of leaving the industry.
I agree. I mean, I'll tell you what, you know, hanging out in certain circles in this industry, it's easy to get sucked into. You think this industry is made up of 200 advisors that actually know what they're doing. And I'll tell you, since I've started the coaching consulting business, there are so many good advisors and agencies out there nobody knows about. And that's actually kind of one of my missions is to shine the spotlight on those firms that are out there just doing their thing and good humans doing great things for their clients. And to your point.
I do see it. One, we're going to have a generational shift, right? The average age in our industry from an advisor still in the upper 50s. So we're going to have a mass retirement of agency owners.
And as we make this shift, and this is one of my biggest missions, Spencer, One of the biggest frustrations I have in our industry is this young 28 year old visor, energetic, passionate, wants to go change the world, gets hired by this agency, is provided zero training, maybe paid a nice salary as a golden as a carrot. All of a sudden within months they're out on their own island because you know what? I built my agency without any training. You're gonna do the same. And in two years that agent's gone. Hell, they might be out of the industry and we just lost a really good advisor because there was no training. Yeah, or they were trained how to pick up the phone and smile and dial. They were trained on how to go knock on doors when today. If you just let your agents grow their brands, you are renting the brand of the agent, they are not renting your logo. If you just let them be themselves and share their brand with the world, they would write so much business. And that's why.
