Invest in Yourself

Andy Neary argues you should invest in personal growth like a baseball team invests in players. Books, coaches, and surrounding yourself with smarter people pay off more than you'd expect, even on a small budget.

What are you doing to grow? Every day? In baseball, when a team signs a player, they're investing in that individual and they're betting on that athlete's ability to generate a return on investment. Now, in baseball, a return on investment equates to more wins. And generating more wins requires that teams spend money. Now, logic would say the more money a team spends, the more wins it should generate. However, the best teams have figured out a way to generate more victories without breaking the bank. By investing in the right players in your life, you are the player. And creating success requires you to invest in yourself. You can't pick people's brains to success. It isn't a free ride. However, investing in yourself doesn't require you break the bank. When you invest in the right things today, the opportunities to invest in yourself are abundant. It can be a small investment, like buying a book, or it can be a large investment, like hiring a coach or joining a mastermind. Whatever works for you. Do something. One of the most effective ways to invest in yourself is to surround yourself with people who lift you up and motivate you to be better. You see, you want to surround yourself with people who are smarter than you, who are more successful than you. If you're constantly finding yourself the smartest in the room, it's time to go find another room. Because you want to strive for growth, always, in all ways. Until next time, bear down, focus on the target and strike out the status quo.
