A short motivational monologue by Andy Neary about the 2020 baseball season being shortened to 60 games due to pandemic-related changes. Neary frames the shortened season as an opportunity: the playing field is leveled, giving every team (and by analogy, every person) a real chance to succeed, and urges listeners to act now with clarity, confidence, and effort—no excuses.

Baseball is back. And I must admit, trying to watch a game right now without any fans, it's a bit tough. And yes, there have been a lot of changes to the rules and the regulations of the sport, most notably how long the season is. Normally it's 162 games. This year it's been shortened to 60 games. A little over a third of the normal season. But here's what I love about that. Every team has a chance. Even the smallest of market teams can get hot over a 60 game period, sneak into the playoffs, and from there, who knows where it will go. Listen, the 2020 season has been shortened for all of us, let's admit most of it has not been fun to watch. And there have been a lot of rules and regulation changes none of us like. But now everybody has a chance. The playing field has been level. So what are you gonna do with the rest of this season? Are you gonna give up and say I don't have the resources, I don't have what it takes to play with the big boys? Or you're going to realize that this shortened season has leveled the playing field for us all. You have a chance, but the only thing that's going to stop you is you and this. So do me a favor. Even though this year has been kind of tough to watch, even though the rules and the regulations have changed, everybody has a chance now. And you have no excuse. So get. Get up every single day. Give it what you have. Get the clarity you need, put the confidence with it so you can go out and take the necessary action. Because at the end of the year, at the end of your season, who knows where you will be. So go make it happen today.
