The problem today is employers are building the health plan the wrong way. They're giving insurance companies too much control on managing the health care supply chain. And what's spitting out on top of the workforce is over inflated pricing, unnecessary procedures, and ineffective treatment plans. If employers are truly dedicated to reducing the health care budget, they have to start building a health plan a different way. Reminds me of my days of pitching when I subscribed to a philosophy known as pitching backwards.
If we're gonna throw strike two and get ahead 02 in the count, we gotta throw something nasty at the status quo. To help our clients win, we must help them build health plans backwards. Now, you might be sitting there going, okay, Andy, what the heck do you mean when you say backwards? Well, let me explain. When I was working my way up my baseball career from high school through college onto the professional ranks, I subscribed to a strategy known as pitching backwards. And here's how it worked. When I found myself in a hitter's count and the batter had the advantage on me, the status quo said I should throw a fastball to get the count back to even, but instead I would throw an off speed pitch like a curve ball or a changeup. And likewise, when I had worked my way into a pitcher's count and I had the advantage, the status quo said I should throw an off speed pitch. So instead I would throw a fastball. The this philosophy, guys, went against the grain. It went against the status quo, but it was effective because it kept the batter off balance and it kept them second guessing.
Now let's think about the typical health plan we're helping our clients build today. Not only is it keeping employees off balance and second guessing their decisions they make, it's allowing the health care system to throw them curveball after curveball.
Like this pitching philosophy, guys. We have to help our clients build health plans backwards. But to do that, we've got to understand how we're building health plans today.
Pitching backwards went against the status quo, but it was effective because it kept the batter off balance and second guessing. When employers start building health plans backwards, employees will no longer be second guessing the decisions they make and they'll no longer feel off balance when they're interacting with the healthcare system.
