The 3 Lessons That Changed My Career

Andy Neary shares three lessons that shaped his career in insurance. Knowledge alone doesn't create power; communicating it does. Storytelling beats product pitches. And business success depends on who knows you, through social media, speaking, and podcasts.

So last week, I had the fortunate opportunity to speak at the Health Rosetta Conference here in Denver. And the topic was centered on three lessons that have changed my career. And these are the three lessons I want to share with you today. Because if you're in the insurance industry right now and you know you should be winning more business, I want you to leverage these three lessons that have a profound impact on my career. Lesson number one, knowledge is not power. Your ability to communicate. The knowledge you have is where the power lies. You've got all the knowledge in the world. We understand that. But that's not what gets your prospects to buy. You have got to be able to communicate your knowledge in a way they understand, that motivates them, that makes them feel like they know you. That's what's going to get them to ultimately buy. Lesson number two, those who rule the world. Those who tell stories will rule the world. I heard this from an Ed Mylett keynote. It's a quote made famous by Plato, and it's true. Those who tell stories will rule the world. You've got to become a better storyteller. Quit pitching product. And the third lesson is, business is no longer about who you know. It's about who knows you. What are you doing to get your message out far, fast and wide? Are you getting prospects to know who you are? What are you doing to get your agency, your company discovered? That's why you've got to be on social media. That's why you've got to be out speaking, hosting podcasts, running webinars, whatever it takes, you have got to get discovered. So want to share these lessons with you Today, the audience at the Health Rosetta got these same lessons. It fired them up for breakfast. I hope they can do the same for you because business is never going to be the same again. So if you want to fill your pipeline with the right prospects to make sales easier, you have got to understand I got to better communicate the knowledge I have. Number two, those who tell stories will rule the world. So become a better storyteller. And number three, business is about who knows. You get that message out so you can get discovered.
