Short YouTube transcript of a conversation between Andy Neary and another speaker about why practicing barefoot—especially in gyms—is beneficial. The speakers address cultural myths that barefoot is 'unclean' and argue that removing shoes (as in martial arts/yoga) keeps spaces cleaner and reduces tracking of bacteria.
You know, you. What you had us walk through in that workshop we did, having us barefoot. Talk about that. Why is it so important that we.
Do as many things barefoot as we can? What. What is the. What's. So what's the importance behind that?
Well, I think we first need to tackle the myth of being barefoot in a gym as being uncleanly. It's like a no, no. Because, like, well, culturally, that that's the situation. Right.
And you have said you've been yelled at at gyms. Hey, buddy, get your shoes on.
Oh, yeah. If your feet are inside the shoes, they are contacting a lot less external bacteria and nasty stuff outside and inside bathrooms and everything like that. And then tracking it into the gym. Right. It's why martial arts studios and yogi studios all have you take your shoes off before you get in. Right. Because they keep that space clean and pristine. If we did the same thing with gyms, we wouldn't really have much of a problem.
