The transition from selfish producer to service-minded sales leader.

In this personal narrative, the speaker recounts a pivotal moment when he chose to move away from a self‑focused, high‑production sales role toward becoming a people‑oriented leader. While attending a Buccaneers game, he felt a heavy heart because he realized he could no longer support the growth of his teammates while maintaining his own book of business. He left the game, went straight to his manager’s office, and declared his desire to become a high‑level people leader whose impact would be measured by the success of others’ books of business rather than his own. Despite having no formal right to make such a request, his manager embraced the ambition, providing training, positioning, and support to enable the speaker to transition into a mentorship and leadership role for his colleagues.
