A short YouTube video (transcript) by Andy Neary criticizing "bait-and-switch" sales tactics on LinkedIn. Neary describes receiving connection requests framed as mutual networking that quickly follow with direct sales pitches, and urges users to focus on creating awareness and delivering value (through video, writing, podcasts, etc.) rather than immediate selling. He invites viewer feedback.

So I want to talk about something today that is driving me a little nuts. I'm seeing it a little too much these days on LinkedIn, and I'd love to get your feedback after you watch the video. And that's what I call bait and switch tactics. You know exactly what I'm talking about, right? You get the connection request from somebody and it says, hey, we have a lot of mutual contacts in common. We should probably connect. Okay. Seems legit. So you hit connect, and then maybe an hour later you get the note. Hey, you looking to increase your followers by 5 to 10,000 people? I can help you do that in less than a month. Click here to learn more. Really? I thought we just connected because we have a lot of common connections, but you just bait and switched me into trying to sell me something direct. Guys, that doesn't work on LinkedIn. It blows me away. The more I make these videos about not selling on LinkedIn, the more I see it, the more notes I get. I don't understand. If you want to create the friendships and the connections on LinkedIn, it's about creating awareness. Yes. Reach out and connect to people, but then give share value, help people improve. Figure out how you like doing that. Whether it's video, whether it's writing, blogs, or maybe it's audio, maybe you podcast. But the goal is to connect and create value. Bring value, not bait with a connection. Then switch with, let me sell you something. And if you're out there right now teaching people these tactics, please stop. You look stupid. Come on. Let's make LinkedIn about sharing. Let's make LinkedIn about creating awareness. Yes. Can you grow a business on this platform? Absolutely. But you do it through creating awareness and you do it through bringing value. So let me know what you think. Agree, disagree. But it's driving me nuts, and I'd love to have more people weigh in.
