The Dead Cat Bounce

Chad Owen (speaker) relays a client's anecdote explaining the term "dead cat bounce" as a brief market uptick after a steep decline that does not indicate recovery. He uses the story to contrast short-term market volatility with the firm's financial products that offer protection, bonuses, and guaranteed lifetime income, advising advisors to help clients avoid relying on such temporary rebounds.

Hello, Chad. Owen. With retirement realized, I just want to share something with you that I heard a client say the other day. And I thought it was kind of cool because one things I love doing is hearing clients with their own sayings, things they've learned over the years. And first of all, I apologize. I'm a little tired looking. I mean, I want to. I'm trying to be very real with you guys. We've had sickness in our family and kind of lacking a quite a bit of sleep, late, late nights and waking up in the middle of the night. But hopefully we'll be getting out of this pretty soon. As you know, with our business, we don't get to stop at times. We don't necessarily get to take a break. We have clients that are counting on us. So when we have appointments scheduled, we have to show up. But this client is kind of funny. As you know, we've had a crazy amount of volatility in the market, and the market had tanked real hard for three. And this guy is really intelligent. I've written close to a million dollars with him over the last year. And I was delivering another policy, and I said, man, that market's tanked. And some people are saying, you know, it's going to go back up because it just happened that day to bounce up about 500 points. And he said, oh, don't worry, it's only a dead cat bounce. And I said, okay, a dead cat bounce. What is a dead cat bounce? I've heard a lot of sayings. I have not heard this one before. So what's a dead cat bounce? He goes, if you're at the top of the building and you throw a cat that's dead off the top of the building, no matter how high it is, even though it's dead, when it hits the ground, it's gonna bounce. But even if it bounces back up, the fact is it's still a dead cat. So it's kind of funny because he related to that. As the market jumps up, he's just like, that's a dead cat bounce. In other words, the market bounces back up. It's just gonna fall back down again. And sure enough, he was right. The next few days, the market fell real hard again. And that's just kind of a funny saying. And with our products, we don't ever have to worry about the dead cat balance. We can make sure that once our clients are in our products, they're safe, they're protected, they're secure. They don't have to worry about market volatility. They can get bonuses. They can get guaranteed income for the rest of their life no matter what the market does. So if you can do anything to help your client avoid the dead cat. The dead cat. Bounce. Let's do that, Sam.
