A short YouTube "Tip of the Day" by Chad Owen (May 7, 2020) advising annuity agents not to think in terms of "capturing market share." He argues there are far more potential clients at risk than agents, so agents should focus on being their best and on improving industry standards so consumers seek them rather than the reverse.

I heard somebody the other day talk about capturing your fair share of the indexed annuity market. I don't believe in that, because here's what I think. There's never a share of the market. There are so many people that are at risk that we could have a hundred, a thousand more annuity agents in our area, and we would still have more than enough clients to help. So don't get that limited mindset that, hey, there's 50 people on the radio in my area. There's. There's annuity agents all over the place. There's life insurance all over the place. Be the best you can be. And there won't be about capturing market share. It'll be that everybody is doing so much better in our industry that we no longer have the black eye. And now people are seeking us instead of us having to seek after people.
