In this YouTube monologue, April Mason of the Single No More Project warns women about the danger of falling in love with a man who woos them solely through text or social‑media messages—a pattern she dubs the “Text King.” She explains how flattering, constant texting creates an imagined chemistry and emotional fantasy that often collapses when the couple meets in person. Mason urges listeners to demand real‑world interaction—phone calls, face‑to‑face dates, and genuine courtship—rather than allowing a digital persona to dictate feelings. She highlights that men may hide behind screens, use boldness that only appears online, and may be playing multiple women with the same texting game. The core advice is to set higher standards, require the same words spoken aloud, and stop the texting game if the man cannot express his feelings in person.

Whether it was great to meet you or what are you doing or how are you, he doesn't pick up the phone to actually converse with you over the phone. Then all of a sudden, you know, you think you're being courteous and you respond to the text. Then all of a sudden, before you know it, you've built this text relationship. So he's telling you all of these wonderful things and then you fall in love with what he's saying. Oh my God, he said I was beautiful! And you're just excited and he just sends you these messages. Good morning, sweetheart. Good morning, love. I was thinking about you and you just like your Your mind is just all over the place because he's sending you these, the most passionate and beautiful and wonderful text messages or Facebook messages. However, when you notice, when you guys get together, it's dead air. The chemistry that you have via text message, the conversation that you can have via text message, your thumbs are hurting because you guys are having these wonderful conversations via text message. But then when you get together, it's nothing. Ladies, don't fall victim to falling in love with text messages, because what will happen is you'll create this fantasy. Y'all know how we do, we create these fantasies. Oh, he said this, he said I was beautiful. And then you, oh, you're going over the text messages, um, looking over what he said, you know, days later after he said it, and you're just trying to piece it together. I wonder what he meant by when he said this. I wonder what he meant by when he said that. And you just coming up with all of this stuff, and, and you're, you're creating this fantasy, and it looks good on via text or via MySpace or Facebook message. It looks great. However, ladies, guard your heart. Make him date you. Make him court you. If he can send all of those things to you via text messages, let him pick up the phone and tell you the same exact things. Some people like to hide behind text messages because they are not where they need to be, or, or they get a little— you know, people get bold when they get behind the computer, get behind text message or technology. So ladies, be careful of getting caught up in dating the Text King, because he can woo you. He can make you feel so good and so sweet, and you just be like, oh God, he's perfect, but you don't know anything about him. All you know is that he can send you a text out of this world. So you're sitting on your job, supposed to be getting work done, but you're sitting there like a high school kid girl with a crush thinking about all of these wonderful things that he had to say. And your mind is going in, your head is just all over the place, and you're creating these emotions, um, by what you're reading. You're allowing yourself to create these emotional feelings for a man that tells you how he feels via text. Watch how things happen when you guys get together. If the chemistry is there, is there— are you guys compatible? Is he the same way outside of his text as he is when he does text? So ladies, just want to send you out a quick dating tip: don't get caught up in the texting game because Next thing you know, all of those wonderful things and how he's been able to make you feel wonderful will be just a fantasy. And you never know how many other women that he's playing that same texting game with, and they're all falling all in love with him. So don't be fall victim.
