It's Called "SELF ESTEEM", Do You Have Any?

April Mason, a minister-coach, shares how low self-esteem shaped her life and now runs a faith-based boot camp. She traces the problem to childhood trauma and unhealthy relationships, arguing that women's confidence directly affects the men they attract. Her four-week program starts September 13 for $25.

Hey everybody, this is April Chippa Chippa Chippa Mason here. You know, I was supposed to be a rapper, you know, in my former day, you know, I would have been a DJ, you know, spitting rhymes and whatnot. But I got called to ministry and I also got called to empower you. That's why I'm here today. First, let me say, how you guys doing? I know you— it's been a minute since I've been doing my videos and I've been getting your stuff on YouTube saying more, more. So I'm gonna give you more. I'm gonna do a couple videos today, so don't trip because I'm not changing clothes. I'm, you know, we don't have a big production studio, we're just here Not doing all of the clothes hanging, but how are you doing? I know it's been a minute, like I said, but I'm here right now at this moment to talk to you about something very, very, um, I think it's important amongst women and I want to invite you to join me in the Extreme Makeover Self-Esteem Edition. All right, let me explain. Looking at the state of our women and the things that we've done and how we feel about ourselves and our self-image. Have you ever had that feeling like nobody wants me, I feel rejected, and things that people have said to you over and over again, it's constantly trying to replay in your mind. Whatever that man, that no good man that you were with that told you you would never be nobody, you're not anything without him, because you got kids nobody will want you, you're just fat, you're ugly, Don't he ever think that you amount to anything? Even if it was in your youth, in your younger days. For me, I'll never forget a situation where I was in 7th grade and it was a young girl. I had dropped some acid on the floor as we were doing a project. Well, when I dropped the acid, it splashed in the girl's eye and another young lady with her big mouth runs over and says, "You know what? It had to be you." And that stuck with me from 7th grade on up. And what I realized is, If I thought that nobody liked me, nobody liked me. I was that person that walked into a party with my head down and kind of, you know, that person on the wall that nobody really notices. Yeah, I was always hurt. You wouldn't, you know, couldn't tell now, but it took me getting over my past issues and upgrading my self-esteem. So it's time for you to take an extreme challenge and join me. September 13th through October 4th, every Monday night at 7 PM Eastern Standard Time for the Extreme Makeover Self-Esteem Edition. You can go to extrememakeover— no, excuse me, extremeselfesteem.eventbrite.com and register. It's only $25 for 4 weeks, but in that 4 weeks' time, we are going to get you on the road to getting your self-esteem to where it needs to be. As I stated before, I was that woman. I— you— my self-esteem was so low you couldn't even walk on it. It was, it was was that low. And it all stemmed from things that had happened to me in my childhood and, and getting in bad relationships. Because a lot of times we get in these relationships and we're looking for somebody to fill that void and to feel, um, that rejection that we're feeling. But because we are not who we— and God designed us to be— we accept something that's down here. So now you're dealing with somebody that may not be up here on your level, the true you. And so now you're sitting here taking this abuse thinking, this is all I can. I had a young lady called me crying, contemplating suicide. And I had to get up in the middle of the night, you know, to go over. And all she was crying when she was saying— she was crying like somebody had shot her child, but she was bent over crying, saying, nobody wants me. I'm not pretty enough. I don't feel good enough. My boobs are too small. You know, I don't think anybody really wants me. And she was crying so hard, y'all. I had to get out there in the middle of the parking lot. I had to go pray and, you know, have her say affirmations. You know, and reminding her of who God said she was. So I wanna invite you out to the Extreme Makeover Self-Esteem Edition because it's time for you to break out of your shell. I know it's just August, but 2011 will be here before you know it. Forget making New Year's resolutions in December. You gonna make a resolution now. You gonna take responsibility for you being treated the way you need to be treated. But people, uh, won't treat you that way if you can't. If you look at it, the type of people the people that you attract, especially men. You know, we, we always talk about the men, but think about the type of men that you attract. Are you getting the same type of guy? Do you feel like you get these needy guys? They always need you to hook a brother up, help a brother out, you know, just work with me, girl, work with me. Think about what you're throwing off. Are you throwing off that desperation? I'll just take whatever, um, just so I can have somebody, just so I could feel that void. Is that what you're doing? I know all about that because I did that. I was that woman. But now, oh no, it don't get down like that. It's not going down like that at all. I know that I am smart. I am intelligent. I'm a wonderful person. I'm a good person, period. I have a great heart. Yes, I think I'm beautiful. If I don't think I'm beautiful, who's going to think I'm beautiful? And you have to feel the same way about you. I don't care if you're a size 44 or a size zero, if you don't think you're the bomb, nobody will. So I'm going to teach you some techniques and things that I did to get my self-esteem to where it's to the point where I don't walk in a room, I'm, I'm making an entrance. And not because of all glammed out or whatnot, but because of the inner glow that's in me because I've dealt with my issues. We're going to talk about it. So make sure you join me September 13th through October 4th, every Monday night, 7 PM Pacific Standard Time, 10 PM Eastern Standard Time. You got to get up and get out. You got to make the choice to change your life. Nobody's gonna do it but you. 2011 will be here. Will you be in the same place? Will you have the same attitude problem? Will you still be, woe is me, walking with your head down and expecting somebody to always come over and motivate you? It's time for you to motivate yourself. When I'm feeling down I put on some music, and I'm not a dancer. I've never been a dancer, but I can get, I can get with it when I need to feel, feel better. Oh, you know, if I'm having a bad day— don't mind me, I'm a little, I'm a little silly. But you know, one of the things that got me, um, a couple weekends ago I was doing a women's event. I had to speak, and, and one of the young ladies that was there, she knew me personally. And afterwards she said, you know, I was talking to a friend— she called me a couple days later— so I was talking to a friend of mine, and I was telling her how much you inspired me with everything that saying, and you said nobody wants to be a public success and a private failure. She says, but because I know you, she said, I admire the fact that you are the exact same person whether you're in the pulpit, whether you're, uh, at somebody's organization speaking, whether you're hosting an event, or whether you're at home with your kids or, or out. You're the exact same person, and you exude that same self-esteem and self-confidence at all times. No matter what you're going through, you have to get to that place as well too. One of my biggest accomplishments was being able to become 100% April Mason. Whoever doesn't like it, I do have that. I recently heard this over the weekend, that Mary J. Blige anointing that, you know, take me as I am or nothing at all. So now that I have dealt with my issues, and of course, you know, that we're always battling, the enemy is going to always try to give us suggestions and, and we're always going to start hearing these voices, but it's up to us to cast it down. Why? Because we have the the power and authority to do so. I always refer back to Luke 10:19. He gives us the power and authority. We just have to understand how to use what we got. So join me for the Extreme Makeover Self-Esteem Edition. Go to ExtremeSelfEsteem.Eventbrite.com. I need to hear from you. It's teleconference, over the phone. You have no excuses. Everybody got a cell phone. No excuses. I need you on that line because we have somewhere to get together. You can— now you have an accountability partner. And for all of you guys out there that know me, you know I'm the boot camp style. I'm the coach, and you going to that next place. See you in September.
