Chris Miquel breaks down how long to test a traffic source: CPL signals show in three to four days, engagement metrics like open rates take a week for daily emails or three to four weeks for weekly sends, and conversions need the longest window. Higher CPL is acceptable only if engagement or downstream performance is strong.

How long do you give it the traffic source to campaign to decide that it's definitely a good source? What are you looking at there and what's the timeframe to establish the winner? Usually like on the cost side, the cost per lead, it should be clear within like three or four days. If something is dramatically high, there's no level of engagement down funnel the person we have to be so good to make up for how much higher their cost is relatively other subscribers. But you can, you can make a fairly good decision, right? Then the longer time is actually looking at quality. If you sell ads, therefore you care about open rate and click through rate and you write daily, you probably have a good sense within a week, definitely two weeks if somebody is going to be good or not. Do you write weekly? All right, well, you might need three weeks, four weeks for that same level of like certainty. The further down funnel your event is, the more time you need to have enough information to say something about that reader that you can be confident in.
