A 2012 study found that people unable to stand from the floor without hands have 5-6 times higher mortality risk. Leg muscles lose 30% of their fibers by age 60, yet most people train legs once weekly. Training twice per week nearly doubles muscle growth, so three short leg sessions per week hits more growth windows than one long session.

I want you to sit on the floor. Now stand up without using your hands, your knees, or your forearms. If you can't do any of that, there was a 2012 study done on 2,000 adults that says you're 5 to 6 times more likely to be dead in the next 6 years. That's crazy work. And yes, that's actually a real study. That test isn't measuring fitness per se, it's measuring the leg strength. And your legs, they're aging faster than anything else on your body. If you don't use it, you lose it, like I always say, like the type 2 fibers in your quads. They shrink about 30% by 60. Arms do not do that. And your response has been to train legs once a week. Yeah, you're cooking yourself. Here's the part that really gets people. Muscle protein synthesis after a session stays elevated for about 24 to 48 hours. Yeah, then it shuts off. You train your legs Monday, and by Wednesday, your legs are done growing and just waiting. That's 5 dead days a week. Schoenfeld's meta-analysis found that hitting a muscle twice a week produces nearly double the hypertrophy of once a week. With volume matched, of course. The same work, just spread out. And it's not only the muscle, ladies and gentlemen. One leg session literally improves your insulin sensitivity for about 24 to 48 hours. Tendon collagen peaks in that same window. Once a week literally means you're metabolically healthy on Tuesday and a desk worker gang by Thursday. That's crazy work. Stop building one brutal leg day you spend 4 days recovering from. That's not it. That last hour is junk volume anyways. Fatigue reps and a garbage-ass technique. 3 short sessions, heavy day, single-leg day, aka unilateral training, speed and jump day. Same week volume, 3 separate growth signals, and 3 metabolic windows open instead of 1. I'm hosting a live training July 26th, 3 PM Eastern Standard Time, where I talk about all things fitness and answer all your questions. Just comment athletic and I'll send you the invite.
