In this 30‑minute YouTube session, trainer Daniel Obi (Speaker A) demonstrates a unilateral‑focused workout that includes single‑leg power cleans, single‑leg RDLs, hip‑flexor work, shoulder mobility drills, med‑ball throws, battle‑rope variations, kettlebell core work and neck conditioning. He explains how each movement improves jump height, stability, joint health, punching power and everyday functional strength. The demo is framed as part of a multi‑phase training program: Phase 1 (intro/warm‑up), Phase 2‑4 (progressive load and longer cycles). Coach B discusses program structure, the importance of consistent effort, habit formation (referencing Atomic Habits), and the mental mindset needed to push through discomfort. Client C shares personal progress—reduced joint pain, better daily function, and struggles with sprint mechanics—while asking for a video tutorial. The conversation also covers youth training, recommending functional drills and safe weight‑lifting ages (12‑13), and the rapid adaptability of younger athletes. Throughout, the speakers stress discipline, consistency, and the value of mobility work for both athletes and everyday life, ending with a call‑to‑action to book appointments via a link in the bio.

What's up, y'all? Just wanna show you how my training occasionally goes. Hope all is well with y'all. So let's get to it, man. So I'm doing over here single leg power cleans. Really, I do implement this with a lot of my clients, typically in phase 2 or phase 3 when they have built a strong foundation. As you can see, what you do with one leg, you do with the other leg. This is pretty much unilateral training to the best I can, what's it called, elaborate right here. And this, you're probably asking, what does this even help with? Well, yeah, that's me resting right there, 'cause you know, it takes the wind outta you, you feel me? So you're probably asking, what does this even help with? Well, this helps with single leg training, like I said, single leg power, AKA unilateral training. Excuse me, I had to burp right there, apologies. So with that, it's gonna help you jump from one leg, obviously a lot higher, you know what I'm saying? A lot more stable so you don't break anything, strengthen the leg, obviously. And this right here is, you know, pretty much single leg RDLs, really helps with the hamstring and glutes. Yes, your glutes are super important. After that, I obviously moved to doing the hip flexors. Yeah, your groin area is super important. If you neglect it, you will literally cook yourself. And gentlemen, please do not cook yourself, you know what I'm saying? Like I said, when you do it one side— this is me doing with my left side right here— I would do with my right side right now because I'm— well, my left side actually. The thing about the groin is that you do not want to neglect it in any sport or really Let's say you don't even play sports. Let's say you're an older person. You do not want to neglect that still. It is very important to not neglect this because when you do that, you mess up right there. You know what I'm saying? It helps with your movement, your trunk movement, everything. You know, it is the hip flexors. I moved to obviously single, uh, what's it called, uh, power cleans right here. Like if you notice, I'm only doing 135. I'm not doing nothing crazy. You know, just 135 really hand cleans honestly. And shoulder mobility right there. I call that power cleans. Apologies, that was hand cleans. But yeah, and it's some Shoulder mobility right there. You know me, I gotta show y'all the abs, man. Just to show y'all that it's on me 24/7. Like, I'm not even flexing my stomach right there. Crazy, right? But yeah, with that being said, I'll move on to shoulder mobility. This is super important. Funny enough, this is for combat athletes as well, or judo athletes. They do this literally. It's, uh, you know, this is like to help you flip your opponent, but it's with your shoulder. Very good for you. I would suggest you do these at least, honestly, 2, 3 times a week. That's really the sweet number right there, the sweet spot of just, you know, like I said, reinforcing your shoulders, you know, good strength and all that. And yes, me again showing you the abs and triceps. I typically do that a lot while I'm working out. Well, I only do it just to show y'all, but really it's like, you know, just, just me having fun, as you see right there. Yes, your boy is extremely lean. Good, more shoulder mobility right here. And the thing about this is that a lot of people do not really focus on the small aspects, the small things like mobility, you know what I'm saying? There's mobility with the foot and there's mobility with your upper body as well. This is what I'm training for right here. I want my shoulders to move smoothly so when I'm able to— when I'm trying to pick up something, you know, just really anything in life, not even in the gym. You gotta realize that this is training for life, you know what I'm saying? Not only for the gym. If you're trying to pick up something, you can easily pick it up. This is landmines right here. Very good explosive movements for boxers and just combat athletes in general. Yes, it's very good. It also helps with your coordination as well, because when you see as I'm moving that, I'm moving with my legs too as well. I'm not just moving, you know, with my upper body, you know what I'm saying? It helps with your punching power. That's why I say boxers right there, a good uppercut, you know what I'm saying? It helps with that a lot. What you do with the right, you do with the left. And this is me training neck. I told y'all, man, I train for everything. Like, if you see me in real life, like me moving around, I mean, you've seen, you've seen videos of me obviously, but I'm very— I'm not only built right, but I'm very functional. Like, my muscle works for me, not against me. A lot of people have muscle, but it doesn't really work for them, if you get what I'm saying. Like, they're actually quite stiff in your body and all that, and they can't really move as, you know, as they would love to move. So that's what you really want to avoid, especially as you get older, you know what I'm saying? You do not want that at all. Trust me on that. I'm doing med ball throws right here. This is very good. I typically use 15 pounds, 25 pounds. Really good for the core, you know what I'm saying? Just builds an explosive, strong core. Just be able to chuck that ball up, you know what I'm saying? Chuck that ball up right there, just like that. And with this, you can do a lot of repetitions with this. You can do 3 to 4 sets and a lot of repetition, you know what I'm saying? It's just very good. For your core and stabilizing and obviously strengthening as well. Then I move to battle ropes. This is very good right here. You can do all types of variations. I do all types of variations, man. I do the normal ones, I do the single arm. It's just good overall, good for you, you know what I'm saying? Excuse me. A little bit of endurance in here. You do it for a little while, you know what I'm saying? You can do multiple sets of this. I like doing 3 sets of about 20 to 25 seconds. You can even do 15 seconds. There's nothing wrong with that, you know what I'm saying? This is all up to you and depending on what you're training for as well, gentlemen and ladies, of course. I would not forget y'all. I do remember y'all. So yeah, like I said, with this you can do multiple variations. With this, this is more of a, you know, of a boxer's variation, I guess you can say that, you know what I'm saying? Helps with your punching power, you know, not only punching power, but it helps your punching speed as well. Like, look at that, you know what I'm saying? Like, I'm literally doing little mini uppercuts right there, you know what I'm saying? And like I said, with that, trust me, this will get you right. You feel me? This is how you really wanna train. And one of the one thing I never really forget to do is always the core. You know what I'm saying? Well, abs. You know what I'm saying? How do you get such nice abs? I always get asked that. This is what I do right here, gentlemen. I train my abs like crazy. I kid you not. I train abs every single day at different intensities. And you're probably asking, oh, I doubt you even asking that. You know what I'm saying? It's fine if you're not asking that. It's totally fine. You know what I'm saying? But for those who are asking, why do you train your abs every single day? Well, gentlemen, your abs and core are literally the foundation, you feel me? You need a strong foundation to be able to move properly, you know what I'm saying? If your core is strong, you know, every other lift you have will be strong. This is me stabilizing the core right here. I'm dealing with a little bit of an imbalance right there. You can see your guy, you know, I'm pretty stable in a sense, you know what I'm saying? Because I train for this every single day at different intensities. I'm using a heavy kettlebell right there. Sometimes I do, I use a little kettlebell, you know what I'm saying? Like I said, the intensity has to change. You can't use the same weight every time. That's not really smart, you know what I'm saying? You get injured that way. That's why I advise you to train your core and abs every single day at different intensities. If you do it hard on Monday, you don't do it, you don't go as hard on Tuesday. You go semi-hard on Wednesday and things like that. Then I moved on. I really had a meeting after this with my client. And I will let that, you know, obviously play through so y'all can listen.
Okay, love to hear that. And by the way, this is just the first phase. This is pretty much like a warm-up in a sense. This is like an introduction, what I always say, you feel me? So, you know what I'm saying, I'm glad, I'm glad you're not too overwhelmed with things, you feel me? Because, you know, we're gonna start pushing weight second phase, you know, third phase, fourth phase, you know, just picking up the, you know, the, uh, you know, we picking up the momentum in a sense because, you know, As you get better, you obviously improve, you know. Uh, I think the saying goes, it doesn't get easy, you just get better at it, is what I'm— is what I like to say, you feel me? So yeah, this is, you know, you know, pretty much introduction phase, you know what I'm saying? So I'm glad, you know, you're getting, you know, wetting your feet, getting accumulated. I like that. Yeah, I like that.
And then the workouts, for sure, um, it's— yeah, I know it's gonna get more difficult, it's gonna be more challenging. So, man, I just stayed consistent. I'm staying consistent with it.
Oh yeah.
Um, and that's— I think that's my biggest win right there, is just consistency. Consistency.
I like that because it's gonna build up, man. I mean, like, by you being consistent, it will not fail you. Uh, I have this quote I always say, like, my discipline will not fail me. And my discipline is just being consistent. Like, it's just me being hungry, you feel me? So I know for a fact if you stick to it, it will not fail you. And you're doing everything you need to do, it would not fail you. And the results will only bring more fulfillment to you. Is what I always say. So that's just a fact, man. It's just a fact. But a lot of people, you know, it's that fine line. They can't really stick to it. Like, that's really, that's really the hard part, really, is actually like, you know, like, because, you know, when you start, you're motivated, you know, first 2 days, 3, you know, maybe a week, 2, you're very motivated. I mean, you're like, man, let's get the ball rolling and all that. Then, you know, some days you actually don't feel like getting off your bed. Like, trust me, I know that. I know that all too well. So, you know, I always say if you do difficult things, you know, uh, when you force yourself to do difficult things, every other thing becomes easy because you're making yourself uncomfortable daily. So it's like, it's like things become easy, man. I kid you not, man.
Man, and I think that's, that's it. And I was reading this book called Atomic Habits.
I just started reading it.
I wanted the audiobook. Um, and that was one of the things, it's not about— we know what the end goal is. Consistently do these little steps in between to get there. Um, and it's who do you want to be? So for me, it's I want to be more consistent, I want to be more reliable, I want to be these things as a man. And it's like, what would someone that's consistent do in this situation? So it's just making sure I'm in tune with that. But man, I have the moments too. Like, I should be like, yo, I'm just— I ain't gonna do it today.
I feel you. Trust me, I've been there, man. Hey, I have them too today, man. But like, with me now, it's more of like— it's almost like— I don't know how to put it. I don't know if you had this, but it's like when I was in college, right, I would actually, uh, like, I was very weird. I was a very weird guy. Like, I would literally go run 5 miles every day in the cold, in a sense, you feel me? And people would always ask me like, why do you do that? And like, at that point, right, I didn't really have an answer for that. I'm gonna lie to you, I didn't know why I did it. I just knew I like worked out and all that. But later on when I got used to it, I knew why I was doing it. First, I make myself uncomfortable so no one else, no one else can make me uncomfortable. Two, I'm building a strong mindset because by me being able to do this, I know it's gonna fall, it's gonna spill into every aspect of my life. And three, I knew that to gain something of value, yeah, it was never gonna be easy. I knew that already, you know what I'm saying? Like, I— there was a price to pay, um, If I had to pay with, you know, pain, sweat, you know, money, there's always a price to pay. So with me knowing that mindset—
And it's actually good because I think me even going through this, because my Achilles was always— every time I would go running or doing something, it would tear it.
Okay.
But even doing those calf raises, waiting at the top, coming down slow, it's like—
Exactly.
I don't have that pain no more. So it's understanding the basics, building that foundation. Yeah, literally.
So because like we spoke about it, yeah, because like we spoke about it, right? If you were to pretty much do a new thing like every week, your body really never gets used to it if you really think about it. I mean, it's like, it's like kind of like, it's kind of hard in a sense. Like it's fun to do it, but your body never adapts to it in a sense, you feel me? Like for really, a phase should be longer than that, but since this is an introduction phase, you know what I'm saying, it's fine, you know what I'm saying? Now Let's say you go— let's say we go into the second phase and like you're feeling a little bit, uh, uneasy, a little bit more imbalances, we can increase it to 5 weeks, you feel me? You know, we can do that. But for the most part, a phase is typically 4 weeks because your body can adapt, you know, adapt to it, especially when you're not skipping days, you feel me? Your body can definitely adapt to it. And the weight's going up too, things like that.
Yeah.
Body's easy to know. Our body is capable of a lot of things, trust me. But if it was just 1 week, your body finds it hard to adapt to that. It's like, you know, I did this, so I'm gonna switch it up, you know? So it's like It's a new thing to your body in a sense.
Got it. Okay, man, but it's working though. I can't even— like, my joints is feeling good, my knees don't— haven't been hurting.
I love to hear that.
Like, yo, you don't understand, like, just— it ain't a struggle getting up out of bed. I feel good, man.
That's a win right there, man. That's the win. That's like— that's a daily win, man. You know, you feel good, man, you go about life feeling good. That's a win, man. That's a win.
Yeah, I'm pushing myself, so—
You should, man.
You really should.
Yeah. Because, uh, because what's it called? Your hard efforts will not fail you, man. Your discipline will not fail you. Like, I know it's just talk right now. It sounds like talk, but I'm telling you, man, it's real, man. Like, especially when you know you put in the work, man. Like, you're gonna be hungry as hell for the results because you want the fruits of your hard labor. Like, you know what I'm saying? So you're gonna be very hungry, let's just put it like that. So I know that for a fact, you know, uh, hard work and your discipline will not fail you, especially when you stick to the, uh, stick to something. It would definitely reward you, man, you know what I'm saying? That's how, that's how the world works, you know what I'm saying? That's really how it works, man.
Cool. I was, uh, I was showing my son some of the videos. He was like, oh man, he's like, he like a ninja. It's like, he built, he built different.
Oh, I'm crying.
It was, uh, it was cool to see him excited about it. He's like, oh, can I do some of that stuff? And it's like—
I like that, I like that. Hey man, when he's of age, you gotta take him there, man. You gotta take him because he can definitely follow the same program too, you feel me? Like, you know what I'm saying? And also, I gotta let you know this, not only, uh, like, you know, when I work on one— when I work with my clients, I make sure that, you know, because you just talking about your son, you know what I'm saying? Even after we get done working out You're always free to ask me for anything. Like I'm talking about, like you know, like if you wanted me to write a program for your son, you don't even have to pay for that, man. You feel me? Just things like that. You feel me? That nature. So you, you know, this is like, this is like a life thing. You feel me? So yeah, you, you're definitely free to ask me for that. Trust me on that. Because he plays soccer. He told me that. I would love to write a program for him. Trust. When he gets of age, of course. You know what I'm saying? He can lift weights. So yeah.
And what's the age for that stuff? Like the. So.
Believe it or not, right, he can actually start at like 12, 13. It's good. So the reason why he can actually start younger than that, but here's the thing though, he can't— he has to do more of, uh, functional work in a sense, like, you know, footwork drills and all that. He can lift weights, don't get me wrong, but his body, you know, uh, is developing. It won't stunt his growth, it won't do that, but it's like just better safe than sorry. It's, you know, it's always good for him to do more, you know, body work, you know, running, sprinting, things like that, because when you train athletes younger And you train an athlete that's older, you know, the younger one will always, uh, supersede them in a sense. Because, you know, kids, it's kind of a— they learn faster, let's put it like that. The older guy, his coordination's off. It's hard for him to really move some of his joints, you know, his movement is just off. But the kids, they adapt so quick, man. They adapt so quick. I trained a couple kids when I first started. I trained a couple kids, their dad brought them to my gym. And just the way they adapt to it was like, it was the second week and they were already like, they were quick to adapt to it.
Wow.
But their dad, he's been working out, but he couldn't— his patterns were off, his balance was off and all that. So it was like, it's kind of easy to kind of see it, you know, how fast kids adapt. So yeah, I always say, you know, start them off young, man. Maybe not with weights, but, you know, with, uh, like we talking about coordination, functional drills and all that, lateral movement. Kids will always supersede that. They will always, they will always be good at that. And by them doing it at such a young age, when they get older, they're actually very, very like very, very seasoned. I kid you not, like they're very seasoned. Their joints are strong, their movement is, you know, it's more refined and everything. And they're just, they're just the overall discipline because it builds a lot. It builds, it builds great discipline in kids, you know, very great discipline in them. So yeah, I kid you not. He plays soccer, so that's good. That's good.
Yeah, like we play basketball, me and that old lady. He's, uh, he loves soccer. We don't know the game.
Okay.
I understand it, but we can't— I can kick a ball, but I don't know.
I feel you. That's, that's what's up, man. That's what's up, man. That's what's up. Yeah, so, you know, just let me know when, uh, when you think, you know, he's like kind of like, you know, ready for— I mean, you know, he's a kid, so he's kind of always ready, but it's like You know what I'm saying? Uh, I mean, let me know, you know what I'm saying? We can, uh, we, we can talk about things like that. I can easily write him a program so you, you know, you can kind of guide him through it, you know what I'm saying? I could probably guide him through it when you're here. I talked to him about it, you know, if he's like, you know, because he sounds like he's very like into stuff like that.
So yes, yes, I like that.
I like that.
All right, I like that. Um, all right, so this is my third, third week I'm on right now. I'll start—
Oh, it's third week? Okay, okay, okay, okay. I thought it was second.
I finished my second week, but I'm jumping in—
You're right.
With the workouts in my third week.
All right, okay. Next week's the last week. Okay, perfect.
So, okay, so I think we on track then.
Yeah, definitely on track.
Um, any questions? Did I have anything?
Yeah, by all means.
Oh, when you do the sprint mechanic, like I'm okay. I'm trying to. It feels uncomfortable because I'm not a sprinter. Okay. So even the three-point stance, the I don't know. I got you running and it's sloppy. Like it don't feel.
I got you with a video. I got you with a video.
You feel me?
Because like like I said. Feel free to ask me a question, you know. I'm glad you asked me this. I go to the gym tomorrow. I got you, I got you. It's real, real, real, real— like, I don't want to say real easy, but it's real solid stuff once you actually see, you know, see, uh, you know, see me do it. And I, I elaborate to you in a sense. I got you, no worries. I'm gonna be in the gym tomorrow. I got you, I got you on that.
All right, cool, because that was the one I'm just like, man, I feel like I'm, like, I'm pushing myself.
But you probably feel like your coordination and your pattern's off in a sense. Do you feel like— yeah, okay. It's understandable, literally, 'cause, you know, if you're not used to doing it, obviously your first time is gonna look a little off, if you know what I'm saying. So it's all good.
Yeah, I think with basketball, I'm always quick taking off and I'm already upright. So it just feels more natural just to do that.
But when you get up with a 3-point start, it's more triple extension and your hips, you know, your hips are very, what's the word? They're very not tight. It's a lot easier for you to get up in a sense, you feel me? If your hip flexors are not tight and your core is braced up and strong, It's a lot easier for you to get up because triple extension, you're technically down. You have to wake up and go up like that. So yeah. Okay.
All right. Yeah, definitely send me the video, man.
I got you. Definitely. I got it. I'm sending a video, uh, by tomorrow night, but I should be back from the gym early. Just, you know, like I said, I just gotta edit things and all that, but I got you though. Like, you know, that's a— I feel like when you see it, you kind of understand it. I might put it in slow-mo a little bit for you so, you know, you kind of like get that point, I got you.
Yeah, I got you.
No, I got you, man. I got you, literally.
Other than that, man, everything's been— I'm staying at it, like, I'm staying consistent.
No, I believe, man. I believe, you know. Like I said, I love you, that, you know what I'm saying? Uh, your hard work would not fail you. Trust me on that. It will not fail you.
Yeah.
And, and with anything, just, you know, feel free to let me know, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, my number, you know. Text, call, just let me know. We can talk about it and all that. And tomorrow I'm gonna send you the video. Yeah, I appreciate that. For sure, man. For sure, man. I got you. I got you.
All right.
All right, with that, buddy, I'm gonna let you have a great night, man. Great talk as always, you know what I'm saying? Uh, like I said, this week if we can talk again, I don't mind. If you're busy, it's fine, but you know what I'm saying? So just let me know, you feel me? Let me know.
I got you. All right, I'll see you then.
Stay blessed, man. Have a great night. Thank you, man. Thank you.
And that's it, y'all.
I thank y'all for watching. As I always say, appreciate the love. If you need any help, there's a link in the bio where you can set an appointment and we can talk about how we can properly help you.
Stay blessed and disciplined.
