Entrepreneur Nikhil Sai says stress comes from avoiding problems you can fix. He adopted a Jeff Bezos thinking model: identify the most obvious next step and do it immediately. He cut stress and procrastination by replacing Netflix dopamine with the momentum of action.

Recently, I have been stressed so much because I'm not getting stuff done, procrastinating a lot because of my inaction, and I was constantly trying to distract myself by finding something entertaining and giving me immediate dopamine so I can forget the actual problem I'm trying to solve and feel good about myself and feel good about my ego. As entrepreneurs, I believe everybody will go through the situation of not able to do the things which are very obvious and get stressed about the situation. As everybody calls it, burnout. You get burnt out and you don't wanna do the work anymore and you feel stressed about the situation, but you gotta do it anyways because you kind of created a trouble for yourself. Now, I have been in this situation probably every other day, and I'll tell you how I have actually created a mind shift. I would say a thinking model to solve for it. I haven't created it. I actually learned it from the creator of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. I watched a beautiful video where Jeff Bezos was talking about how stress actually doesn't come from the problems you are in in life, but it comes from the inaction on the things you know you can take action on. I'll give you an example so you understand. For example, if we launched a client's campaign and the cost per acquisition is 3 times more than what we have expected, and the client is going nuts on it. Obviously it's a problem. I get stressed. Now if I don't fix it, if I get stressed and go watch Netflix or forget about it and distract myself by watching a movie, that's where the stress comes from. But if I act on it, meaning show up for the client call, take responsibility, kill the campaign, recreate the campaign with a different angle and test a different variation to hopefully decrease the cost per acquisition, it would decrease my stress, meaning I won't be stressed anymore because I'm acting on the things which I can. For example, if it rains, you don't get stressed because you can't control it. But if you're unable to close deals on a sales call, you will feel stressed because that is something in your control and you know that you could be doing better. That's a skill gap or belief gap, which you gotta improve and practice. Obviously, you're never good at sales. You need to stay good in sales. Coming back, that simple wise words from Jeff Bezos actually made me realize that if I'm stressed in any situation, which I will be most of the times one way or the other, instead of just running away from the problem, think about what can I do about it? Take extreme ownership, point the finger towards you, don't blame anybody else. And once you do that, you cannot see the most obvious action you could be doing. And the number one goal you need to have is once you find that action, decrease the delay of taking that action. Meaning just go and start attacking it. And trust me when I say this, once you start taking action, you will feel the momentum and you will feel the dopamine of doing that action. Regardless of the outcome, you will keep doing it. So the thing you need to realize, which I learned from the situation, is if I'm stressed out, I could go and watch Netflix and feel dopamine from it, or I could start working on the problem and feel dopamine from it. So if you just replace your thinking model and instead of escaping the problem, finding the most obvious thing you can work on and start working on it will actually relieve all the stress you can ever get in your life. Now, who am I to talk about this? My name is Nikhil Sai. I started as a 19-year-old broke dropout. I built a million-dollar marketing agency in 2 years while making my clients half a billion dollars, and I moved to Dubai by the age of 22. I'm recognized as the world's youngest $100 million award winner on stage with Russell Brunson. I know entrepreneurship is lonely, it's stressful, and there is a lot of emotional imbalance we will go through as entrepreneurs. But I believe having different thinking models to put in place and remind yourself constantly and realize that it's normal and it's okay to feel that way sometimes will always keep you moving forward. And I hope this video inspires you to take a step further and make your entrepreneurship journey better for you. And if you have any more questions, feel free to comment down below.
