Brigid Titgemeier explains how extreme calorie restriction triggers chronic fight-or-flight activation, impairing your central nervous system and destabilizing hormone balance, immune function, and gut health. Eating enough, skipping fasted workouts, and cutting back on caffeine help restore the nervous system and build resilience.

Eat enough to support your central nervous system. Women are notorious for trying extremely low calorie diets and not thinking about the consequences of that, especially when it comes to central nervous system regulation. Central nervous system is so important in improving our energy, improving our brain health, improving our overall sex hormone, decreasing our risk of autoimmune disease, improving our gut microbiome, and so much more. I believe that more and more evidence based trends will come out. Focus on central nervous system regulation because we know that when we are in a fight or flight response that it increases our susceptibility to nearly all illness. We want to prioritize more of a restorative state and eating enough calories. Not over exercising on an empty stomach, not over fueling on caffeine is an important part of those principles.
