An older man shares what kept him moving for decades: swimming, tennis, golf, and skiing. He played tennis and skied until his seventies, then switched sports after knee surgery. Pick activities you actually enjoy, he says, so you'll stick with them and stay connected to people.
When you're exercising, look at the things that you can do lifelong and not only by yourself, but with your partner and your family later on, because there are some things where you're more apt to get hurt. And I would avoid those, but certainly things like swimming, tennis, golf, skiing. I did most of those until I was 75.
And you still do some of them?
Yeah, I still.
You had to retire from skiing after your knee replacements?
Unfortunately. Yeah. That's when I could get a free ski pass.
That all.
Figured out because I really miss skiing. I used to ski a lot, and I enjoy tennis. And for a time, I own part of a golf course and could play free anytime I wanted to. But the thing is, that will help you in the socialization, in entering a new community. Plus, it's good for you.
