Dr. Elizabeth Boham explains that only 5-10% of breast cancers are caused by high-risk genes like BRCA1 and BRCA2. Most risk comes from lifestyle, gut health, toxin exposure, and inflammation, not genetics.

breast cancer is largely genetic. How true is that statement? Genetics plays a role, of course, but it's estimated that between 5 and 10% of cases of breast cancer are related to genetics. I mean, a lot of that calculation is based on the high-penetrance genes like BRCA1 and 2, and so there's probably other genetic influences that we do look at all the time. I kind of put in this category of low-penetrance genes that impact what we need to do to support our detox system and our vitamin levels and many different things, but there's always a lifestyle component, but even more so than just lifestyle, there's also, you know, influence by all the different systems in the body. You know, our gut microbiome, the toxins we were exposed to, you know, the level of inflammation in our body. There's so many things that come together that impact a person's risk of getting breast cancer.
