A Columbia-trained physician explains why 75% of migraine sufferers are women and argues doctors mask symptoms with painkillers and Botox instead of finding root causes. Common triggers include dairy sensitivity, magnesium deficiency, caffeine, stress, hormonal shifts, and high blood pressure.

You could have a migraine headache. 75% of migraines occur in women. The root cause of your migraine is not a painkiller because your migraine is not caused by a painkiller deficiency that is not the root cause of your migraine. The root cause of your migraine could be a dairy sensitivity. Believe it or not, dairy is a big trigger for people. Magnesium deficiency, too much caffeine, chronic stress, hormonal changes in the menstrual cycle, estrogen dominance, uncontrolled high blood pressure. There's a lot of root causes. And I went to Columbia for medical school and trained in internal medicine in Mount Sinai. Amazing institutions, but I wasn't trained at them to think root cause most of the time. So when it came to migraine, what was my solution in my training days for a migraine? You know, here, try this painkiller, and if that doesn't work, try this painkiller. And if that doesn't work, okay, go do Botox or a neurology center or further pain control. And that's controlling the symptom, but it's not treating the cause.
