The best workout is the one you'll actually do. If you're training for a marathon, prioritize cardio first and add strength later. For longevity and health, strength training comes first, but include cardio too. The perfect plan means nothing if you won't stick to it.

I have always lived in the camp that the best workout is one that you are actually going to do. If you love cardio, then yes, move, do cardio, do swimming, do running, endurance training, train for an ironman, do that triathlete. If you love strength training, then do strength training. At the end of the day, the best workout is one you are actually going to do. But when you talk about cardio versus strength training, I like to break it down. When people ask, like specifically what should I do first? I think it's really important to look at what is your goal? Like, are you training for a marathon? Are you endurance person? Do you want to run your first 5k, then prioritize the cardio training, right. And then put your strength training and vice versa. If your goal is maintenance and longevity, then strength training should be your priority. But you can't forget about cardio. So they need to coexist. Absolutely, in any good, well rounded training plan. But I think at the end of the day, just find what it is for you. I could tell you as a trainer inside my head what's going to get you the results, what's going to get you the body that you potentially want. I could tell you the best workout plan, I could break it down for you, but it might not be something you do or follow. So then it's no good.
