Geneen Roth says overeating happens when you eat without noticing what's on your plate or why you're eating it. Real hunger isn't just about calories, it's about satisfaction, nourishment, pleasure, and beauty. Pause and look at your food, notice the patterns, and eat with awareness instead of habit.

To really give people permission to see the food on their plate and to question who actually took that food, because often we just pile our plates with food without considering why, if we like it, or if this is revenge eating, if we're doing this to make up for when we couldn't do it. With eating, we get quite involved in talking to other people and don't actually focus on the food in our mouths and allow ourselves to have what we have. And as a result, we keep eating and eating and eating to get to the feeling when never going to get to because we're not taking in what we're actually taking in. What we're really hungry for is not just food, but it's also satisfaction, nourishment, pleasure, beauty, all of that, which we do not get when we are just, you know, hand to mouth, hand to mouth, hand to mouth.
