Brigid Titgemeier explains how women's bodies change after 30: muscle and bone loss accelerate, insulin resistance rises, and chronic inflammation sets in. Building muscle through strength training matters more than weight because it improves insulin sensitivity, reduces inflammation, and protects brain health.

As women age, we are more prone to muscle loss, to bone loss, to gut microbiome changes, to insulin resistance, and to chronic inflammation. And after 30, muscle loss accelerates, and it's one of the biggest drivers of aging and our risk of overall disease. So we really want to shift the focus from how much do I weigh on the scale to building our muscle mass, increasing our bone density so that we can decrease our risk of fractures and frailty, and improving our strength over time. This is how we improve our insulin sensitivity. It can decrease inflammation. It can improve brain health and cognitive function and so many other things that are tied to this. And so when we think about feeling good on a daily basis, feeling good in our bodies, we have to continue to focus on building strength instead of just focusing on the number on the scale.
