Jesse Rogers says retail traders should stop relying on candlestick patterns and use volume profiles instead. Mark the first 15-minute candle's range, overlay a volume profile to find the 70% value area and point of control, then trade when price spikes above and closes back inside, or wait for pullbacks to enter continuation trades with a trailing stop.

Stop trading candlesticks like a retail trader and start trading volume like a professional. It's why I'm able to catch setups like this, this, and this consistently. Step number 1 is to mark the high and the low of the first 15-minute candle, like the opening range breakout, which I'm sure you've probably heard of before. But we're going to use the opening range value, which is much more powerful. And to find the opening range value brings us to step 2, the volume profile. You're going to draw it over those first 15 minutes and it shows you one thing. Where 70% of the volume was actually traded. And that area where 70% of the volume was traded is called the value area. The top of this area is called the value area high, and the bottom is the value area low. The middle where the most volume was traded is the point of control. And this range is great, but like all levels, it is just theory without execution. Which brings us to step number 3. Now, 2 things can happen at these value area levels, and both give you a trade. If price pushes above the value area high and then closes back inside, this shows you that buyers got trapped. That close back inside is your signal to enter. Now, the second thing that can happen at value area levels is if price pushes above the value area high and stays there. This means that the market is accepting higher prices. So just wait for a pullback back to the value area level and then trade the continuation and never use a fixed target. Just move your stop to each new candle's low and let the trade run until it stops you out. This way you're able to get much more out of your winning trades.
