Jesse Rogers explains that order blocks only work if they're followed by a fair value gap, which shows large orders executed with force. Without that displacement, slow price movement means there's no real push behind the block, so re-tests are less likely to hold.

Your order blocks fail you because you're missing this one thing. You think every up close candle before a move down and every down close candle before a move up should be an order block but unfortunately that's not the case. Here is what you're missing. The order block must be also followed by a displacement for it to really work, meaning a fair value gap. Because if price moves slowly from an order block well this tells you that there's no real push behind it and it likely won't work. But on the other hand if a fair value gap forms as price trades away from that order block that tells you that large orders were executed with force in that order block. So when price comes back to it and you enter it's likely that it will work in your favor. Now save this post so the next time that you're trading an order block you can come back and study to make sure it's the right run.
