Charlotte Freeborg argues that the five people you spend the most time with shape your success. She hired coaches and joined communities to learn marketing, and shares how staying calm under pressure came from modeling her parents' behavior, which her own kids now copy.

Hi, I'm Charlotte Freeborg, and I help busy moms choose or create a career or business that makes them feel fulfilled while they also have time and energy to take care of the rest of their life, like still being an amazing mom for their kids, because I know how that can be a struggle for many women. So in this video, I will talk a little bit about how important it is to surround ourselves with people who already have succeeded in an area that we would like to be successful in, or people who are totally on the same page as ourselves while we learn new skills. And it can be anything in life. It can be an area of your life where you want to change a habit. So anywhere from being better to take better care of our health, or to start a business, or to get back to work, or to make a career change, or to speak up and make some changes in the job you already have. And ideally would like to keep but maybe can't see how that's possible. But why is it important to surround ourselves with people who already have had success in this area or maybe a while ago went through that change or right now have really decided that they want to be successful with that? You might have heard that you become the person with, you know, from that you can kind of look at the 5 people you spent the most time with and the average result that those people bring in, whether we talk about success in their career or how we show up as parents or the amount of money we make and what we believe in, but if we look at the 5 people we surround ourselves mostly with, that's a really good mirror of what kind of success we, we will have ourselves. And I think that's a really good check-in with ourselves, and I'm not talking about not hanging out with old friends or family who are on a totally different path than us. What I'm talking about is if there is, let's say, I mean, I primarily focus on women who want to have a career that feels fulfilling, where she can also have balance in her life and have time for herself, have time for her kids, have time for the things in life that gives her meaning.— that then it's important to find a community or some people who are on that same page because if we don't have that, maybe if we are surrounded with other women who don't believe that's possible, who will say, "Oh no, that's not possible," it really takes so much more determination and courage and to be successful in that and follow through and believe in ourselves if we constantly hear from other people we surround ourselves with that it's not possible. But again, I'm not saying to let go of friends who may not have the same beliefs as you, but find other people who do and you can go to when you focus on that area of your life. And I want to give you an example of something that I experienced the other day that actually inspired me to make this video. Just, I had an accident, I cut my finger, I still have, it's still wrapped in here. I cut like a tip of my finger off, it wasn't too bad, but there was a lot of blood. And in that situation when it just happened, I kind of was in, not a deep shock, but I was kind of in a shock and it happened to be that my two oldest kids were around me and I went and I just, they knew that, okay, I needed help here and they just stayed calm and took over. First my daughter actually asked me, "What do you want me to do, mom?" And I said, "Honestly, I don't know right now," because I was in this kind of shock And then she asked me, "Well, if it was one of us, what would you do?" And then from there on, her and my oldest son took over. So she finished cooking, my son took me to the doctor. But we talked about that, that I have always, it's been natural for me. I've learned from I was a child to stay calm in urgent situations. And not be stressed and lose my faith in myself of being able to find a solution when things are stressful. And it just happened to be something I learned as a child from my parents. And in a way, I've helped my kids to learn that skill as well. And what I want to say here is that it's not that that my parents told me, if this and this happens, then you have to say and do this. But I learned from them. We were sailing and sometimes we were, even though my parents were really good at listening to the weather forecast, so we wouldn't sail if we knew there would be a severe storm. But sometimes the weather forecasts, and this were like quite a few years ago, were not as accurate as they maybe are today. And it happened that the weather changed. And we were in some situations that actually could have been quite dangerous, and a few times it was. But I saw from, not from my parents told me to do, but also what I saw them do, what I experienced, because we, we spend all this time together, how they handled urgent situations. And that way I learned that skill. And now I realized, okay, I never told my kids, if I ever cut my finger and there's a lot of blood and I don't know what to do, then you have to do this and this, but they learned it from watching me. And I'm just using this example because that's the benefit we get when we surround ourselves with people who already are successful in the area we want to be successful in. So I want to give a personal example where I have hired not just one coach but different coaches to help me So it's always been kind of natural for me to coach people when I have a person in front of me or over Zoom these days where we go through the COVID times and I actually only coach people over the internet, so from screen to screen. And it's pretty profound how deep connection you can get this way. So that's always been more or less like a net. Of course, I've learned different tools, different processes, but it's always felt natural for me to really listen to someone and see that person's skill, that person's talents, and help the person find it in her or himself. But what has not been natural for me has been, as an entrepreneur, as a business owner, to do the marketing. That has actually been very difficult for me, and that's where I have found that by investing, finding coaches who are super good at that, and learn from them, and not just listen to them, but being in their communities and hanging out on Zoom group coaching calls or in Facebook groups where we can ask questions, have communication, inspire each other, share things and listen to each other. And that's the way I slowly, step by step, have picked up those skills as well. I'm still learning. I mean, we all do. We can always be better, but it's from modeling what other people are doing. So that's what I wanted to talk about in this video. So I would love to hear if there was anything you took away from listening to this. So wherever you are watching this, you can give me a like, a thumbs up, a thumbs down, or leave a comment. I would like to hear if there is an area where you now are thinking that it would be good for you to find other people that can cheer you up, be your mentor or coach or teacher, someone you trust will see you see that vision for you, that you succeeding and you get that skill. So I would love to hear what that could be. So with that, I wanna say bye for now and maybe see you in another video.
