HOW TO BE LIKED IN AN INTERVIEW #careergrowth #interviewquestions #interviewtips #interviewskills

Chloe Spillane argues that likability matters as much as skills in hiring. Build rapport with your recruiter through genuine interest, honest communication, and asking for feedback. They'll advocate for you with the hiring team.

Something I don't say enough for the people that get into the interview process but never feel that they can connect is that you're missing the likability factor. And this is something that you can actually work on through the recruitment process. This is how you do it. The person that you want to be building an instant connection with is your person of contact throughout the process. This person of contact is going to be the talent acquisition coordinator or talent acquisition partner or the recruiter. I know that because that's been me. We're the person that puts out the job ad, we're the person that contacts you and based on your application, and we're the person that headhunts you. So we're that first person that you're having that initial consult with. And throughout the entire recruitment process, we're going to be the person that up, contacts you, checks in, sees how you're going, gives you feedback, all of that. So the more you can build a relationship with us, the more likely it is that we are going to push you through the process, speak more favorably about you to the other hiring team, and genuinely want you to join the organization. You need to focus on building a relationship with this person. How you do that? Take a genuine interest in the person. Contact them as much as possible throughout the process, telling them how you're feeling about everything, whether you like it, whether you don't, getting feedback from them. Everything and anything you want to know or want to share about how you're feeling about the process, you tell that person, because that's going to help you build that relationship, which will then lead to connection and rapport. You can't rely on just your skills and experience being the main sell as to how you get the job. You have to have the perfect balance of your skills and experience as well as a likability factor. And the likability factor is only going to be built by focusing on building the relationships throughout the process. And the person that can drive those relationships is your point of contact, and that point of contact is most likely the recruiter or the talent acquisition person that reached out to you in the first place.
