Storytime of when I literally had no experience and still was able to pitch myself into a completely new role. Okay, so I'd just been made redundant, and the day after I was made redundant, I had an interview lined up for some hospitality side work. Now, that's not the work I didn't have experience in. I, at the time, had a foodie blog running. I would go out to restaurants, I would write reviews, and then I'd talk about it on social media, and sometimes I even got free food. It was great. My friends loved coming along. So what would happen is there would be these agencies that would be representing certain clients, and these clients were restaurants. and then they would contact influencers like me to go and try their new food or their new menu. What happened was I was out of work, I wasn't making money, I was just getting free food, and this agency reaches out to me, asks me to go try this new restaurant, and then I also see on their socials that they are hiring for a social media manager. Did I have experience being a social media manager? No. But did I have experience posting content on an Instagram feed? Yes. So what did I do? Saw the opportunity, pitched myself in, had an interview with her, was very honest about my experience. I did come in at an entry-level rate, but honestly, I just lost my job, so I was open to anything. Even if you don't have any experience in a field that you want to get into, or a field that you just want to try out, look at what you're currently doing that can transfer across. And if you know how to pitch that well, there is nothing stopping you from getting a role in that new industry that you want to try.
