There is no shame in saying "I'm doing it for the money" #moneytalks #moneyneeds #salarynegotiation

Chloe Spillane argues there's no shame in naming money as your reason for taking a job. She negotiated from a $100K minimum to $120K by knowing her market value and asking for it directly.

Why were we always told not to say, I'm doing it for the money, in a job interview? I think it's BS. If you're driven by money, that's okay. I want money. I want to be rich. There's nothing wrong with saying, I'm going for this role because of the money. It's all about priorities. If your priority is making as much money as possible, then go for it. If your priority is getting career fulfillment, then go for it. Whatever it is, don't feel ashamed or bad about wanting something for the money, especially in the world that we live in right now. I remember when it shifted for me and I wasn't afraid to ask for more money. When I was headhunted for a role. They asked me if I was interested in moving, and I said to them, I'm not going to make a move for less than $100K. And they said, well, we're going to pay $120K for this role. And I said, great, I'll take that. How did I make that shift? I understood what my market value was. I knew what people that were doing what I was doing were getting paid, and I knew what my skill set was worth. And if a company wasn't going to pay me what I knew my value was, then I wasn't going to go for that opportunity because money was something that was important to me. So if money is important to you, make sure you know your market value, you know how to present yourself, you know how to present your skill set, and ask for that dollar.
