When I started Chloe Spillane Careers, I was working 4 different hospitality jobs. I worked every single day to get it off the ground. I was a single woman living in Sydney trying to pay my bills. I remember one time I went to a hospitality shift. I had to take 3 buses, which took me over an hour to get there. It was a 5-hour shift, and then I got home at 1 AM or something like that, but it was paying my bills. I even had to ask my landlord at the time if I could pay my rent in installments. I was pouring schooners of beer at uni rugby games at 33 years old. Do you think that felt good? No. Did I think those kids were judging me? Yes. Did I have to get my ego in check? Yes. But what I reminded myself of is that this was a choice, a choice that I made to get to where I want to be in my career, which was running my own business. And I had to do what I had to do to get to that point. What I want you to really think about is what do you want and how bad do you want it? What are you prepared to sacrifice to make that thing happen? For me, it was about going back to waiting tables. When I first started doing it, I had constantly felt the need to justify myself and go, oh, but I'm running my own business, I'm starting a business. And then after a while, I just stopped doing that. And I was like, yeah, this is what I do, because I couldn't be bothered, because I knew people were going to judge me anyway. Regardless of whether someone judges you for what you're doing, that doesn't actually matter. What matters is that you're doing what you need to do to get to where you want to be.
