Chloe Spillane says company websites claim one thing about culture but employees live another. Ask interviewers how they handle negative feedback, what wellbeing programs actually exist, whether promotions go to insiders first, and if learning budgets are real.

No company can tell you what a company culture is like, but there are specific questions you can ask to see if you're gonna be treated like shit or not. What's a piece of negative employee feedback that you've received and how did you handle it? What's an employee wellbeing initiative that you've recently launched in the organization? What are the learning and development initiatives or benefits that employees can access? What's the internal mobility like within the organization? What does the career pathway look like for this role? When a new role is put out, do you go to your team internally first or do you go direct to market? That's gonna tell you if people within the organization get a chance of going for the role before they put it externally. Ask these questions at your next interview and you'll get direct insight into that company culture. No company can explain their culture, and a couple of values on a website is also not gonna explain that. It's how they demonstrate, how they look after their employees, AKA you, when you step foot inside that organization.
