Winning interviews #101 Be the candidate that makes them chase. #careeradvice #interviewtips

Chloe Spillane explains how to shift from seeing interviews as a test to treating them as an equal partnership. When you prioritize your own requirements and stay willing to walk away, hiring teams chase you instead of the other way around.

This is what happened when I stopped treating interviews like they were a test and that I wasn't an equal to the person that was interviewing me. I developed a very secure attachment to interviews, and every role that I went for, I was given an offer. It wasn't a fluke. It wasn't because they just liked me. It was because I was able to walk in, articulate my value, articulate why I'd be the right person for the role, and what I could bring, but I was also able to sit there and listen to what they could give me. I was comfortable in prioritizing my needs, asking for what I was looking for, and if they weren't going to give me what I wanted, I was happy to walk away. And what that showed them is that I had complete confidence in myself. I was happy to show up and have a very frank conversation around what I could bring, also what I didn't have experience in and where I needed support and if they could give that to me. And when an organization sees that level of authority, security, credibility, uh, sense of self, and high value in a candidate, they want that energy in their company. They're looking at you going, damn, if that person can speak like that about themselves, imagine the quality of work they can bring. Now, there's a difference between being arrogant and knowing how to articulate your value and walk away from things that don't serve you. You are treating an interview like the equal playing field that it is. So often we forget that a conversation is not a test. It is a conversation about a partnership between two parties to see if there is a fit. Yes, they are assessing you, but you are assessing them just as much. Be the secure candidate and you will be the one that they chase.
