WINNING INTERVIEWS - Manager fit. #interviewquestions #interviewprep #interviewtips #interviews

Chloe Spillane says treat interviews as two-way. Ask your manager follow-up questions about team dynamics, growth, and how they support people through hard times. Detailed answers mean they care. Vague ones mean they don't.

This is what happens when you test your potential manager fit just as much as they're testing you. They ask you, tell me about yourself. You tell them, and then you say, how would you describe the dynamic of the team I'd be joining? They ask you, where do you see yourself in 5 years? You tell them, and then you say, what does growth look like for someone in this role? Can you give me an example of when someone has been promoted? They ask you, can you tell me about a time where you overcame a setback? You tell them, and then you say, I'd love to understand how you support team members when they're going through a specific challenge. Can you give me an example of when that's happened? In this moment, something really important is going to happen. A good manager is going to want to really lean in here. They'll want to tell you how they support their team members. They'll want to say things like, I want to make sure every team member feels seen, heard, and understood. They want you to know they're a manager that cares. A manager who couldn't give a shit about you is going to be really vague here. They'll deflect and they'll move on quickly. They will not want to spend time on this answer, and they'll think it's kind of inappropriate that you're asking it. What you'll quickly realize is that you're not simply answering a set of questions here. You're not being tested. You're actually assessing whether this is someone you want to work with and this is a company that you want to work for. Interviews are a two-way street, my friend. These responses are going to tell you everything, so don't be afraid to ask them.
