You’re undervaluing yourself #careeradvice #worklife #selfworth #mindsetshift #careergrowth

Chloe Spillane worked with an executive who doubted her qualifications for senior roles. After mapping her skills and what she actually wanted, the client went from no interviews to weekly invitations. Most job seekers undervalue themselves by not clearly articulating what they bring.

She's an executive-level woman. She's run her own business, but she still doesn't think that she has enough value to offer a larger organization in a senior role. This person is my client, and let's talk about how now, through working with me, she's getting interviewed week upon week. Okay, so she came to me wanting a change. She was not feeling happy with her current work situation, not feeling fulfilled, and really out of alignment with the rest of the team. She really cares about doing meaningful work and just felt that they weren't on that shared vision with her. What happened initially is we would be looking at these roles and her immediate thought was, oh, there's a lot of competition. I'm not going to be good enough. I don't think I have what they want. I don't have the right qualifications. Okay, well, let's get objective here. Let's look at, okay, well, what do you have? What are you offering? What is your value? What's important to you? What's the type of organization you want to be at? Who are the type of people you want to work with? What does meaningful work look like for you? Once we got this clarity around not only the value she can bring and her unique skill set, Then we started looking at those roles she's coming across and finding a real alignment between them. We started putting together applications, putting together our pitch, reaching out to these organizations and applying. And lo and behold, we are now getting responses for interviews requesting her. She's still shocked that the organizations are wanting to meet with her. I'm certainly not because our first conversation I could see exactly how much value she could bring and how much she was underselling herself. Once we've actually uncovered her unique value and what she brings and what's really important to her, she's now getting excited about the roles that she looking at. She's sending me through email after email saying, oh my God, what about this one? What about this one? And that makes sense because once you turn it into something exciting, then that is going to be a ripple effect through your every single application that you send through. And then alignment is going to be so clear to the person that is reading that application. I guarantee that if you are looking for work right now, you're looking at job ads and you don't think you have enough value or enough to offer, I can tell you that you do. It's just about getting really objective and getting clear as to what that value is and then being able to articulate it.
