A short conversational excerpt from a YouTube video by Connor Beaton titled "Agreement Is the Relationship’s Backbone." The speakers discuss defining the terms and conditions of a romantic relationship—how to handle conflict, protect one another, and maintain commitment. Emphasis is on forming a mutual, unconditional agreement to have each other's backs even during anger, doubt, or disappointment.

What are the terms and conditions of our relationship and how we want to operate, how we're going to do conflict, how we are going to protect one another, how we're going to love on one another like all of those different pieces.
Reality is we always have lived in a dangerous world. We live in a world that is exploitive, opportunistic, doesn't care. And we're always at some point facing a danger, whether we know it or not. Therefore, the reason you and I make the fundamental agreement that we're going to protect each other, have each other's backs at all times, that it's you and me against the world, is because no one else will ever do that. Not my friends, not even my parents. Because we don't have that social contract. There's no guarantee it would be mutually assured destruction for both of us if we had that blood oath. Therefore, we're going to do it even when we least feel like it. Our agreements must be made with the idea that we are going to do this. When we hate each other, when we feel angry with each other, when we don't like each other, when we're not into each other, when we're thinking about how disappointed, no matter what, this will be done. That's a good life and that's how you make things happen.
