John Lee separates anger from rage: anger lasts minutes and can lead to talking things out, while rage stretches for days or weeks and destroys communication. He says society is stuck in rage, and that anger can end with reconciliation over coffee, but rage just breeds more rage.

Are men really as angry as society says they are in this day and time? Everybody is angry. No matter what political side or any of that, everybody's angry. And what I'm going to do today is make the distinction, which is what I've been doing for 35 years. The distinction between anger and rage. Anger takes moments or minutes at the most to talk about, and rage can go on for hours, days, weeks. Our society currently is in a prolonged state of rage. Rage never gets resolved. Anger gets resolved and gets resolution. I can tell you that I'm angry appropriately about whatever you said to me yesterday, and when we get finished, we'll go have a cup of coffee together. But if I rage at you, you're not going to want to even talk to me, let alone have coffee with me. Because rage doesn't bring about resolution or communication. It just brings about more rage.
