An excerpt from the YouTube video "Break The Cycle of Emotional Distance" (Connor Beaton, Feb 18, 2025) in which Connor Beaton and a guest discuss how to deepen intimacy by revealing hidden parts of oneself. They advise naming when interactions feel "uncomfortably safe," using discretion about who to disclose to, and describe intimacy as the process of being fully known despite fear.
Is there any steps you might take? If I'm talking to somebody and I'm like, you know, this is too safe. At some point, say.
Like, this feels.
Uncomfortably safe for me. Yeah. And just be open about it and be like, this is actually foreign for me.
Part of building.
Really deep intimacy is that we start to reveal the hidden parts of ourself.
That other people.
Don'T know about. That's the trick. And it's.
Also like.
The threat of intimacy. You start to reveal the parts of yourself that are hidden that other people don't know and that you are sort of sometimes.
Afraid to reveal.
And that's really at the core of love, is that we're fully known. Our psyche, our hearts, our soul, our body. We want to be fully known. But that's been unsafe, you know? And maybe it's not with this person. Maybe it's a different person. But use your discretion and your discernment of that, but call it out.
