Dr. Sara Kuburic argues that the self is actively created through ongoing actions and choices rather than passively "found." She identifies three components of the self—choice, freedom, and responsibility—and critiques the idea of "finding yourself" as implying a static, pre-existing identity. Kuburic emphasizes that authenticity is dynamic: one’s authentic self can change over time and is formed moment-to-moment by behavior and decisions.

So however you're acting right now is who you are. You can think you're something else, you can hope that you become something else. But your current actions created who you are in this moment. This is like the responsibility, the choice and utilizing your freedom from moment to moment. So those are like the three components I say of the self, like choice, freedom, responsibility. There is a lot of talk right now of like find yourself which I think is really lovely. Yet that means yourself exists and was co created unintentionally or passively. Passively. You had nothing to do with this creation. What you had to do was like pick it up, put it on and then go on for the rest of your life. That's not how I think it works. I think you create yourself every single moment. Your authentic self is not static, it's constantly evolving. So who you are authentically today will hopefully be very different than who you are 10 years from now and both will be equally authentic. It's more about the creation of self through actions and through choices and through.
