How is complex trauma really created, and how does it show up today? Complex trauma is almost always rooted in childhood, because that's when your neurology and your development and your nervous system, your brain, your sense of self, that's when all of those things are forming. When you grow up in an environment where chronic neglect is present, no one's tuning into your emotions. My parents just literally never showed emotions. The other piece is that inconsistent or unsafe. Caregivers. So maybe parents were abusive and that was sporadic, or it was just consistent. And the last piece, there's a repeated boundary violation. Your physical boundaries, your emotional boundaries, your psychological boundaries were just reoccurringly pushed through. Teaches you as a child, which you then become a man. World isn't safe. Neither are relationships. My wants and needs don't matter, and therefore I'm less relevant.
