Connor Stirling Peterson shows parents and coaches how to build a tournament schedule for junior golfers. Use the tournaments and results database to find ranked events in your state, pick four to get your player ranked, and log them in a spreadsheet with dates and reasons for playing each one.

All right, congrats on getting through the first video and watching this. If you haven't already watched the first video on setting your long-term goals, make sure you go back and do that. It's really important just for understanding how this all fits into the big picture. Every one of these pieces fits together, so if you skip over something, you're going to get confused at some point. We want to avoid that. So if you haven't already watched that video, go back and watch it. Um, assuming you have, good job. Let's talk about building out your tournament schedule here. So there's a couple rungs of this, and this is going to be my quick starter video. I'm gonna have a video below this, it's going to go into more detail about any one of these things. So if you need more clarification, go ahead and watch that video. It's going to go in more depth because obviously this stuff can be in quite a bit of depth. I want to get you started though. So the first thing you want to do here is go to tournaments and results, search for tournaments. And then you want to look up your state and the year as a starting point. If this is the thing you want to do, if your child is not ranked or if they're not in a position where they need to start looking at AJGA events yet, what you want to do is look at your state and see, okay, out of all these tournaments— and I can narrow this down, right? We could go by month where whatever is easiest for you. But let's say we're going into February here. I'm in California, I want to play in something in February. You're going to be able to see every single event that is ranked in February and just go down those lists. First, just kind of clarifying like, hey, how close is it? You know, we don't want to be driving all the way across the country for these events. We only need to play in 4 to be ranked. And so if you look at a particular month, say, hey, February weather is not great, we just want to look at March or April or what have you Every ranked event is going to be here. Main thing that we want to make sure that we're doing is we're playing in ranked events. That way the tournaments we play in actually count. There will be some cases where it makes sense to play in unranked events, um, you know, potentially if we have some tournament nerves we need to work out, we need to play more tournaments in order to get through some of those issues. But for the most part, we're talking about tournament scheduling, we're really trying to make sure that we're playing in ranked events. So this is how you're going to find them. So just go by month, when you want to play. Don't get too crazy about this. Main rule of thumb here is we want to be playing longer golf courses if possible. If you're confused about exactly how long you want to be playing, either shoot me a message, um, comment below this video, or bring it up on one of the weekly calls. That way I can clarify that for you. It's not too crazy, but what you want to do is go through these, pick the ones that make the most sense for you. Under each one of these, you'll have the little details and you can just go straight to the website. So you'll also tend to get comfortable with the local tours. So Toyota Cup is a great one for Southern California. But once again, you can always go straight to the website. If you ever have a question about one of these, just email the person who's in charge and they should be able to give you clarification on whatever your question is. So you've got that right there. Now when you're going through this process, which we want to do, just go ahead and take each one of these particular events and then pull them over into this spreadsheet here and start filling this out. That way you can see all of the dates, the tournaments, the tournament you're playing in, the venue, the state. Ideally, why you're playing it can be really, really helpful. It's not necessary, um, but it can be really productive to actually show, um, why you're actually playing in that event. I'm going to go ahead and remove this, this rank here. So those are the main things you want to know, just like, why am I playing in this? In this case, it would be to get ranked. Um, so hopefully that makes sense. This is just kind of a starter video here just to get your tournaments, um, set up. I will have a video below this as well that goes into how this is going to be different for your child if they're already playing AJGA, and that is kind of a primary thing we're trying to play more difficult tournaments. This video is primarily for you if your child still needs to lower their scoring average to around that 77 or better benchmark. So hopefully that makes sense, and if you're ready for the AJGA events You'll watch that in the next video.
