How To See If You're On Track For Your Goal 1

Connor Stirling Peterson shows junior golfers how to use a spreadsheet to track scoring improvement and see if they're on pace for recruiting goals. Input your scoring differential monthly from the Junior Golf Scoreboard, and the sheet automatically projects your improvement rate and flags whether your target is realistic or not. Monthly check-ins make progress visible and help you adjust if improvement stalls.

All right, so in this video we're going to be using this spreadsheet to be calculating out your pacing, how much you're improving, if you're on track or not. So hopefully you've already watched a prior video and done that exercise, because if you don't do that exercise, you're going to have a hard time— none of this stuff's going to make that much sense. Go back and do that. So what we're going to have here, this is just obviously a placeholder, we want to have the month, or just like whenever you got started here we started working together, you got the spreadsheet, right? You've already got your goal. You're going to want to plug in your class, right? So what are you the class of? Put that in there. And then what you're going to want to do is note down your current scoring differentials. You're going to go over to Junior Golf Scoreboard, and you don't have to have an account or anything. Just go in there and search your name. Let's just use one of my, my students here. So you can see, hey, if I was trying to do this for Camden, I'm not going to be able to see his particular scoring average. We don't care about that right now. We just want to go in here and grab whatever your scoring differential is and then go ahead and plug that in there. Okay, and we want to do this on the same day every single month. And so what that's going to allow for us to see here is this is going to plot over time how many shots per year we're improving by, because there's got some formulas in here that are going to calculate that out. I would also encourage you to start doing this for your tournaments and your practice and your last 10 rounds in your Circles app. Now, not required there, not going to make you do that, but it can be helpful to also see how those are correlated or not correlated, to be frank. And so long story short, what you want to go in here is just every single month, right? This might be, you know, cut down here as an example. So you have the next month here, just go ahead and drag all the way across and pull down, and then you're going to see one month later. And just go in here and update, you know, whatever this number is, and you're going to see, hey, your annual improvement is going to change based off of that, and then your projections are going to change based off of that. Because essentially saying, hey, if you're here right now when recruiting happens, you're going to be here. It's going to be bright green if it's unreasonable. So in this case, nobody's at a -30 or -40 score differential. So it's like, hey, You're on a good track, we're making good progress, but you know, don't expect that to hold. Once it gets back into the universe of realistic stuff, it'll change color. If we're off track as well, it'll change color in that case as well. Okay, so let's go ahead and put this back the way that it was. All right, last little note here. This is going to have the most up-to-date— let me make sure this actually dynamic Okay, cool. So you're going to want to go ahead and plug in your most up-to-date junior golf, uh, your improvement average here to get your improvement pace. And then you're going to want to go ahead and pull your current scoring differential, right? So improvement pace, scoring differential. Now based on this, this is going to be calculated out, so don't touch this. You can say, I want to be— I wonder where I'm going to be in 6 months or 7 months or 10 months or 12 months or whatever. There's gonna be different scenarios you're gonna be trying to run in your head of like, oh well, you know, if I do X, Y, or Z, then, you know, these things are going to happen. I want to make that easy for you so you can actually just look at this and say, well, in 4 months I should be here comparatively to where I'm at right now, right? And so that's just another way to kind of help you guys project stuff, especially when we get closer to recruiting. You might be 3, 4, 5, 6 months out and be wondering, hey, Am I on a good track? I know I'm not where my number needs to be quite yet, but am I on pace to get there, right? That way you can commit to actually going through the process rather than getting super anxious about everything else that goes into this. So hopefully this makes sense. If you have any trouble with this, let me know. But just make the habit of going into the spreadsheet, looking at where you're at on Junior Golf Scoreboard, putting that in, and seeing how this is trending over time. That way you have clarity on how much you're improving. And if you're not improving as much as you'd like, Great. It's good to know. And if you're improving a good amount, then also that's good to know as well. So hopefully this helps you. And again, let me know if you have any trouble with it.
