Practice hitting irons at less than full speed to control trajectory and spin in different wind conditions. Elite golfers can hit softer, lower shots into the wind while maintaining distance, a skill that separates them from average players.

If you want to get better with your irons, one of the best things you should work on is trying to hit more off-speed and knockdown shots. The better that you get at being able to chip your iron shots and be able to add speed, take off speed, the more shots you're going to have available to you. The way it ends up working out is if you're in the wind, let's say, you're going to have a lot more scenarios where it'd be like, okay, cool, I can hit this full and I know I can stop it because I'm going downwind and I can add a little bit of spin. Or I'm hitting into the wind, I'm going to chip this under the wind, take some spin off of it, and be able I still hit my yardage. That's really the difference between the great ball strikers and just kind of your average, you know, ball striker. They're able to play in all conditions because they're able to manipulate the golf ball by changing their trajectory and changing their spin by not always hitting every iron shot all out.
