Does Class Rank Matter? #shorts

Class rank doesn't mean much because class size and composition change year to year. What matters is percentile: Division I athletes typically rank in the top 10% of their sport. Don't get complacent with a high rank.

Because if you have a 6th grader who is ranked top 100 in their class, it is not the same thing as being ranked top 100 in their class if they're a junior. So you can't look at that and say, oh well, you know, we're going to be here. At the same time, let's say your child is ranked, I don't know, 500 in their class, something like that. Maybe they're toward the bottom. You still can't look at that because just because you're ranked in a particular position doesn't mean you're going to be ranked in that position forever, right? So if they're really good, let's say they're ranked top 100 in their classroom, just like 'You know, we don't need help, we're already ranked top 100 in our class.' You're like, 'Okay,' but you don't necessarily know where that percentile is, right? So it's like they could be ranked top 100 in the class but being like the 15th percentile, which is like— it's like, it's good and all, you're better than 85% of the other players, but that's not really Division I player. Typically Division I's about top 10%. Um, so not only do they need to continue to improve, they also need a little bit of reality check. Be like, 'Hey, like, I get it, like, you're in a good spot,' like you know, for all intents and purposes, you are. But, you know, like, don't, don't be that guy who like dances at the 1-yard line. Like, that's a, that's a dumb position to be in.
