Knockdown shots reduce spin and trajectory, making them easier to control in the wind and more likely to hit greens. Most approach shots fall between clubs anyway, so a lower flight gives you better distance control and stability.

I've seen this time and time and again. If you want to hit more greens and you want to be a better ball striker, especially on your approach shots, you want to hit more knockdowns. We rarely have full shots into holes, and so because of that, you're always going to be in between clubs, or the majority of the time you're going to be in between clubs. That's not even taking into consideration the fact you're probably playing in the wind a decent amount of the time. And the reality is you're going to be benefited by having a little bit less spin ball having a little bit lower trajectory. It's going to be a little bit easier to control your distances if you're hitting more knockdowns. So if you want to hit the ball better, especially on your approach shots, start hitting more knockdown shots.
