Three things separate good golfers from the rest: driving long and straight, hitting greens in regulation, and lag putting to make long putts easier. Skip the fancy short game and focus on these instead.

If you want to play golf at a high level, it's important for you to understand that some things are just way more important than others. That's fundamentally any strategy in anything in life whatsoever. So what are the things that are important in golf? It's pretty much 3 main things that are really important in golf. Number 1, some tee shots. You hit as far as possible and keep it in play. You hit it far but it's out of bounds, it's not going to work. You hit it short and it's in play all the time, you still hit it short. You gotta fix that. Second thing, you gotta hit as many greens as possible. Doesn't matter if you have short clubs into every green, you're not hitting it on the green, you're gonna struggle. But at the same time, you're not always gonna hit it close. Just hitting it the green is the main thing there. Third thing, lag putting. You hit a ton of greens, you're going to be having some 20, 30, 40, 50-foot putts. The better you are at that, the better scores you're gonna end up shooting. So those are the 3 things you need to focus on if you wanna shoot lower scores.
