Elite golfers don't hit better shots than others. They know where their misses will go and prepare for them. Managing bad shots, not perfecting good ones, is what separates consistent low scorers from streaky players.

If you want to play golf at a high level, your bad shots are so much more important than your good shots. Most good golf is a bunch of mediocre shots, but the reality is the difference between the great golfers and kind of everybody else is great golfers know where their misses are going. They're able to predict, they're able to prepare for that, and that is the difference between shooting low scores consistently and shooting low scores every now and then but really struggling to be consistent, especially in competition.
