Training Your Mind and Body to Believe in Yourself
10 Mar 2025 · 11 min
Confidence is built through action, not born with it. Start with a simple rule: do at least 15 minutes of exercise no matter what, and count that as showing up. Three things happen when you do this consistently: you prove you follow through, you get comfortable being uncomfortable, and you see real progress.

Hi, welcome to another Power Blast podcast where we provide nourishment for the soul, allowing you to transform from the inside out, providing rapid results in mindset and fitness so you can recharge your battery and reclaim your power. Confidence, that's something that you either have or you don't, right? Well, that's what a lot of people think. But confidence, it's not. It's not a personality trait. It's something that you build through action. And so the fastest way to start believing in yourself is not necessarily by positive thinking, although positive thoughts can help. It's not even waiting for motivation, which a lot of times people do too. It's so often proving to yourself that you can follow through. And one of the most powerful ways to do that is through exercise. I get it. Sometimes we've let ourselves go for so long, we drift off course and, you know, we get back in the game, we're humbled and our confidence is not there. But when you push through, you know, and you push your body past what feels comfortable and this takes a while, you know, it's the power of repetition. And a lot of times it takes some time. Even in small ways, you are sending a message to your brain. Did you know that? You know, even the first, the first workout there, you're getting results right after the first workout, even though you might not see it on the scales or you might see it not see it, you know, even in the results or your clothing. But changes are happening. And the message is simple. You are capable of doing more than you thought. And when you challenge yourself physically, even just a little, it changes the way you see yourself. You're going to have to trust me on this one and just play it out. See, here's the thing. The problem is that most people will never connect with their workouts. You know, that the exercise they're doing, they won't connect it to their mindset. They see it as something separate. You know, it's not related to their confidence or my abilities to succeed. And they don't believe, you know, they don't connect it to believe in themselves. But exercise, it's not just about fitness. It's about. It is proving to yourself that you can show up, you can push through, you can come out stronger on the other side. Many of us, we've just gotten so good at the old stories that we play in our heads that we keep ourselves from getting to that point. We're always looking for an escape hatch to get off of our plan or a way to self sabotage and then to prove to ourselves that we can't do it. And we've just gotten so good at that. But what if we didn't do that? Let's talk about that today. Before we get into all this stuff. Make sure you head over to talktopary.com, that's where my calendar is at, and it's wide open for podcast listeners. You, it's all about keeping your energy high and reaching all of your goals. I want to help you recharge your battery so that you can reclaim your power. We do that in 15 minutes. Talktoperry.com Confidence. Let's talk about that. Most people, they wait for confidence before they take action. They actually do that with motivation, too. They wait for motivation before they take action, and they think they need to feel ready before they commit. And that's backwards confidence. It comes from action, not the other way around. You've heard me talk. If you've been listening to this podcast for the years and years and years, past 17 years, you know I've talked about that, right? Are we coming upon 18 years? We're coming upon 18 years. Well, if you struggle with believing in yourself, the best thing you can do is just start proving to yourself through follow through, that you can follow through. And that's where. That's where exercise, I believe, comes in very, very well. Every workout, it's an opportunity to train your mind just as much as your body, and it doesn't have to be extreme. Here was the thing that I started doing for myself. I realized I was always looking for that escape hatch, a way to negotiate with myself, to procrastinate the workout, to put it off, to do doubles the next day to make up for it over the weekend, not now, you know, and I would do that. And then I realized, you know what? All I needed to do was actually just get started. Once I got started, I would finish the workout, but I committed myself. I said, okay, from now on, no matter what, you're going to get the first 15 minutes done. If you're not into it, the first 15 minutes, after 15 minutes, call it a day. But you still count that as you showed up. Because I realized it was more important that I developed the habits of showing up than I. Than it was to see the results. And I still wanted those results. And I had to trust that if I showed up day after day after day after day, the results would eventually come. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know the results were happening as I was going. Even that realization of belief and confidence just Giving myself permission to show up was a big confidence booster. You know, you don't have to crush every workout or push yourself to exhaustion a lot. A lot of times we lock into the good old days, right? You know what, what matters is consistency. And we've been consistent at being off the grid for a long time, off the wagon, not exercising. We know where that gets us, right? So the more times you show up and do what you said you would do, the more you start to believe in yourself. And there's three ways that exercise can build confidence. Probably a lot more than that. You know, showing up, overcoming discomfort, seeing progress over time. You know, those three things just. First is showing up. That's what I did. I created a little no matter what agreement with myself. Like, it's just 15 minutes. Just get in there and get your 15 minutes going. And then almost every time, I would finish the rest of the workout. I think there was maybe a handful of times over the past 23 years that I went, yep, I'm calling it a day. Maybe I had a headache. Maybe I had a big to do list or something. I don't know. But that's where most people struggle, you know, showing up, not showing up when you said you would. We let emotions kick in and decide what we're gonna do. We negotiate with ourselves. We figure that, you know, oh, I feel tired, stressed, unmotivated, and we skip it. And that's where I created that little no matter what plan. If you want to help, want help in creating that, head over to talktoperry.com let's do that. Because every time that happens, you're reinforcing the belief that you're not someone who follows through. And you've gotten good at that. But when you show up, even when you don't feel like it, you start proving to yourself that you can, you can count on it day after day after day. It's not about motivation. It's keeping your promises to yourself. Another one is overcoming that discomfort thing. I get it. Exercise can be really uncomfortable. It can be humbling, you know, but when you push past that point, that little terror barrier that you're making up, it doesn't mean that you're ignoring your limits or pushing past the exhaustion. It just means recognizing the moment when you feel like stopping and you choose to stay in it. That was me. I would get to my 15 minutes and I'd be like, yeah, you're already here. Now you might as well just keep going. Even though I wanted to, I said, 15 minutes. I'm going to tap out. Well, I would still go, you know, and then eventually that would lead into doing one more rep, a couple of little sessions. All of a sudden I'm doing the bonus round, like, who is this guy? You know, when you do that, you start to prove to yourself that you can handle discomfort without quitting. And that belief carries over into lots of things in life. This isn't just about exercise. Not this mindset training I'm giving you today. And the other one is just seeing progress over time. I mean, I get it. It's easy to feel stuck when you don't see immediate results. We can go in, do a ton of crunches, get on scale and hope, you know, and hope to see a six pack and the scale move and the six pack in the mirror. But every time, you know, just kind of look, look at it this way. Every time you complete a workout, even if it's not perfect, you're. You're stacking that proof that you're someone who shows up. That was me. My tracking sheet was just a calendar. I put an X on the day. I showed up today, got my workout done and I did it the next. My goal was to run 90 days straight and I did. I'd never done that before. And that proof adds up. And over time, you start to see changes not only in your mindset, not only in your, maybe your tracking sheet, but changes in strength, endurance, mindset. You start to get all these other results, aches and pains that you didn't think it would ever go away. All of a sudden they're gone. You're like, wait a minute, I didn't count on that. You start seeing yourself differently and you're no longer the person who gives up, you're the person that keeps going. How would that be? How could you apply that in your life? Right? And that's why I say I can help you map this out. Head over to talktoperry.com because I want to help you really dial things in, power up your mental and your physical battery. Because so many of us, we go about life draining our mental battery like we are a 5 year old smartphone with 2% battery life and no charger inside. And I want to help you. It shows up when you prove to yourself that you're capable of, of more than you thought. And it's not just about your body. I get it. You know, that's where we, we can kind of see the proof and stuff like that. But it's about training your mind to trust yourself. The more you show up and push through and stay consistent and it really the stronger that belief becomes. And once you believe in yourself, everything else becomes possible. So decide and commit to yourself and your goals and choose to figure out new ways learning, look at possibilities, learn, grow and keep moving forward. You've got this, my friend.
